Was let down by his defence as he had to lift the ball out of his net five times. Could have done better on at least one occasion, however, and would like to forget this game.
The defender had a busy game, and failed to rise to the challenge. Was often beaten by Grosskreutz, and conceded a silly penalty with a needless challenge.
Made a brilliant intervention early on to rectify a mistake by Kacar, but from then on it was a slide downhill for him. Nutmegged by Lewandowski for the second, and always two steps behind the striker after the break.

The midfielder had a terrible day as nothing he tried really worked despite his best efforts to get involved. Barely managed to create any chances.
Put in a lot of effort, but ultimately failed to neutralise the threat of BVB's attacking midfield trident. Ran a lot, but completely crumbled after the break.
Could not produce anything spectacular on the flank, and generally struggled to deal with Schmelzer. Looked isolated for large chunks of the match.
Had a very good first half, creating HSV's only chance of the period, but struggled badly after the break. His soft challenge led to the third goal, and was constantly pinned back by Kuba.

The Germany international started the game very well as he tirelessly patrolled the flank, keeping Zhi Gin Lam quiet. His concentration started to wane in the late minutes of the second period, and he made a couple of errors.
Made a good start to the game, barring one very poor shot in the 11th minute. Did well to open the scoring, but was guilty of a few poor long-range drives as well. Ran the flank well, showed good interplay with his fellow attackers, and did much defensive work. Assisted Lewandowski's second.
Showed immense craft and vision as he pulled the strings for BVB, making a few very good passes, and timing his run to perfection. Showed great technique on the ball.
The Polish winger justified his inclusion in the starting XI with a very good performance. After a relatively quiet first half, he exploded into lie after the break, netting with an immense finish for the third goal, and coolly putting away the penalty. grabbed an assist for Lewandowski's first.
The midfielder was his efficient self in the centre of the pitch as he made sure that Hamburg barely managed to get the ball in midfield. Kept it simple in possession, and did not make any mistakes of note.
An encouraging performance by the veteran, who did a lot of work in the centre of the pitch. Won a lot of challenges, and made a few telling passes.
The Pole delivered yet another remarkable performance as he netted a brace and added an assist. Did superbly to nutmeg Westermann, and was a constant menace to HSV's defence.
