Held on to a couple of one-on-ones with Pato but had no answer when the Duck made it 2-0. Also dropped an early second effort which could easily have cost his side.
Saw his wing exploited too often in the first half as Boateng made hay in the right hand channel.
Made one particularly good intervention on Ibrahimovic in the first half as he did his best to keep up with Milan’s nippy forward play. Got forward well at times after the break, but should have stayed on his feet instead of trying to win a penalty off Seedorf.
Struggled to have any answer to Pato as the forward was given too many chances to net in the first half.
Too often by-passed by the neat interplay of Milan’s forward line, though he did come across to foil Pato well on one or two occasions.
Ran with real heart at times as the Viola’s forward play lacked direction elsewhere. Got a couple of testing crosses in which went without a final touch to match, but was lucky to stay on the field after pole-axing Abate.
Didn’t have enough of an effect as Milan’s midfield got on top from the word go. Was later replaced by Behrami.
Scored the goal which gave his side hope and also had Abbiati with his heart in his mouth moments later as he showed real drive to get his team back in the game.
Drove his team on well, and it was his shot that led to Vargas’ goal. One thing you’ll always get from him is effort.
Had nothing like the effect Mihajlovic would have looked to get from him, and it resulted in him being hooked at half-time.
Didn’t have the finishing touch tonight as many of his runs were out of tune with the final ball he was looking to pounce on. Often second best up against Thiago Silva.
Should have done better when failing to hold Montolivo’s shot as Vargas scored, and was caught out again by the winger moments later.
Did well to close off the threat of Donadel and the overlapping Comotto as Milan stayed on top for the first hour, though Behrami did beat him once or twice.
Stood in well for Nesta as the Viola tested him in the air, but not so much on the ground where he has been questionable previously.
Again did well in the right back slot but sometimes found he couldn’t answer the questions asked by Vargas.
Another expert defensive display by the Brazilian, who seems to be able to turn in big performances whether Nesta is alongside him or not. Won the battle with Gilardino.
His emergence as a point in the midfield diamond has been a real boon for Milan, with Seedorf complementing him perfectly. Great cross in for Pato’s goal.
M. van Bommel
Excellent performance once more from the Dutchman. Provided exactly the performance Milan needed from him as he played early sensible passes in to the more attack minded Rossoneri players.
Fitted in well in a dominating Milan midfield performance. Staked a claim for a more regular place in the starting XI.
In the left midfield slot Allegri has suddenly found the perfect slot for Seedorf to work in and his football was excellent once more tonight. No longer has the legs, but the brain took him through as he bagged one goal and almost created more.
Played well in the first half in particular and then worked well with Pato, but missed two great chances and then earned his second senseless red card in successive games.
Great movement, great appetite, and – eventually – a great finish. But had he finished those two earlier chances he may have made it a more straightforward night for his side.
- 89 Neto
- 31 M. Camporese
A like for like replacement for Natali, he had no real positive effect on the game.
Replaced Donadel and did well getting down the right hand side, asking questions of Zambrotta.
- 21 G. D'Agostino
- 24 A. Cerci
Changed the energy levels in the Viola attack when he came on at the break, but didn’t have quite the goal threat to earn his side a point.
