29 April 2013
• Parc des Sports, Annecy
Referee: O. Thual
• Attendance: 14621
J. Pastore 50'
RED CARDS: Salvatore Sirigu and Saber Khlifa handed red cards for their part in the post match melee. A poor end to proceedings here. Join us again next week to see whether PSG can lift the title against Valenciennes. Until then, good night.
90' + 6'
Red Card Salvatore Sirigu
90' + 6'
Red Card Saber Khlifa
90' + 4'
What a night. What an ending. Both sets of players converge in an unsavoury setting at the end of the game, with Sirigu having to be dragged away.
90' + 4'
FULL-TIME: Evian 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain
90' + 3'
Red Card David Beckham
90' + 3'
Beckham is escorted away down the tunnel. PSG to finish with nine men here. A massive ending here.
90' + 3'
RED CARD - DAVID BECKHAM! The former England captain is sent off for a challenge with his studs up. Referee Olivier Thual unhesitant.
90' + 1'
Into the first of four additional minutes here at the Parc des Sports.
KHLIFA! Tame shot, on the volley, and after taking a deflection off Chantome, it's a pretty easy take for Sirigu.
ADNANE! On the volley, and it's flown just wide of Sirigu's post. They really do need a goal, level on points currently with Sochaux, who are in the drop zone.
Gregory van der Wiel
Substitution from PSG - Javier Pastore, the goalscorer off for Gregory van der Wiel. Meanwhile, Evian forward once again, via the wings.
Dramatic finish on the cards here. Three Evian players pile forward, but they got in each other's way as Thiago Silva ploughs past them, bring the ball out with a lofted pass towards Ibrahimovic, which is thwarted by Mongongu.
Mbarki proceeds forward, in off the edge of the six yard box, but Thiago Silva sees the bell behind for a corner. It's delivered in poorly, as PSG win a goal-kick.
David Beckham on for Jeremy Menez as Iheb Mbarki on for Evian. Five minutes to go, and Evian are camped inside the PSG half.
Ancelotti had talked about the Italian's discplinary problems before tonight, and he's gone nuts at Verratti's sending off. Meanwhile, Rabiu drifts a shot wide as Evian pile on the pressure!
Amazing that. Verratti continues to try and talk the referee out of it, before he changes course towards Ancelotti. The Italian trainer goes ballistic at his young protege, screaming at him in a manner that befits father and son.
Yellow/Red Marco Verratti
RED CARD! Marco Verratti sent off for PSG. A second bookable offence from the young Italian. He protests his innocence at the referee, before Matuidi drags him off.
Substitution: Youssef Adnane on for Yannick Sagbo.
PASTORE! Good save by Laquait, who thwarts the visitors once again. Good build-up from PSG, as Verratti tees up the Argentine, who gets behind Djadjedje and his low shot is quickly beaten away.
Evian rally once more. Barbosa into the box, aiming to locate substitute Kevin Berigaud, but PSG clear the ball away hurriedly.
It's Christophe Jallet who is down for PSG, as Sirigu recovers quickly. The former club captain should be OK.
KHLIFA! What a chance. And it's gone begging. Ancelotti shakes his head in disgust at how easy his defence was pierced. Jallet collides with Sirigu, who is momentarily out of it, as Khlifa pops up with a header oer the bar.
17 minutes left to go in this Ligue 1 clash, and PSG are ahead narrowly. They've won their last few games, bar the 3-0 win over Nice last weekend - by a narrow margin. Crawling towards the title.
Evian ploughing forward in numbers now, a staple of some of their attacking successes over the course of the season. But still, Thiago Silva, Alex and Sirigu continue to repel them.
Substitution: PSG - Ezequiel Lavezzi off for Clement Chantome.
KHLIFA! Unbelievable stop from Sirigu. He hasn't done much tonight, but he's kept PSG in this one. Brilliant cross from Sagbo, in towards the Tunisian who launches on the half-volley. Sirigu parries it, before clutching at the second attempt.
And Ibrahimovic wraps up a woeful 10 minutes with an awkward slip on the ball, bringing jeers from the crowd.
Evian with a rare moment upfront with a corner. It's helped on, but doesn't materialise into something serious. Pascal Dupraz's men are just lacking something in the final third.
Amazing. PSG should really be 3-0 up in the last few minutes. Two absolutely golden chances in two minutes.
LAVEZZI HOWLER! Ancelotti is furious. Moments after Ibra shows he is human, Lavezzi with an inexcusable miss. Fantastic pass by Pastore, round Laquait, and with Mongongu on the line - the nonchalant Argentine sees his shot blocked!
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC HOWLER! Shocking miss from the Swede, who fires his effort over the bar. PSG hit the bar from Pastore, with Ibrahimovic, on the line against Laquait, fires over. Howling all around from the Evian fans. Would've put your house on it.
SUBSTITUTION: Evian - Milos Ninkovic is off for Kevin Berigaud.
Another offside, though this time against Evian and Saber Khlifa, who momentarily strayed into an unfavourable position. Still, Dupraz's side are seeking to trouble the defence, but Sirigu has largely enjoyed a quiet evening.
Menez cuts in with a low cross towards goal, but there's no team-mate on the end of that as Mongongu clears easily with Cambon also doing well to nullify the threat that the PSG attackers face.
So, as it stands. Paris Saint-Germain remain nine points ahead of Marseille. Should Marseille not beat Bastia next weekend, a win for PSG at home against Valenciennes would seal the Ligue 1 title and invariably, a massive party along the Champs Elysees and Porte de Saint Cloud?
Barbosa with a fantastic clearance to deny Jallet going forward. The 36-year-old, despite being in his twilight years on the pitch, remains an integral part of Evian.
OUCH! Ibrahimovic clatters into Mongongu, bringing both of them down like a ton of bricks. Mongongu got what he was looking for, a free-kick, as he held his own, before being tumbled over by the striker.
Poor from Evian, who allowed Pastore in, unchecked. Can they hit back? Defeat here will drag them back into the relegation dogfight.
Assist Christophe Jallet
Goal Javier Pastore
GOAL! PSG TAKE THE LEAD! PASTORE!! Fantastic finish from the Argentine who puts PSG ahead in Annecy, as was the case two weeks ago in the Coupe de France. Fabulous strike, as Menez tracks the run of his team-mate, who lifts the ball past Laquait with style.
Marco Verratti in danger of being dispossessed, as he is chased by Rabiu. Ancelotti has made it clear time and again, that this is a trait that he hates from the young 20-year-old.
Now Evian begin to break through the left with Barbosa, but they win a corner. Pascal Dupraz's men are unable to make it work however, as PSG clear the ball hurriedly.
IBRAHIMOVIC! Great clearance away by Mongongu after a good header from the Swede from a setpiece situation. Thiago Silva was lurking readily also, but Mongongu, facing his own goal, hacks the ball away.
UNDERWAY in the second half. PSG get us started again, attacking from right to left as the rain falls somewhat heavier in Annecy.
HALF-TIME in Annecy, and it's goalless at the break. PSG have been below-par once again, as was the case against the same team two weeks ago in the Cup. Join us again in 15 for the second half.
45' + 3'
HALF-TIME: Evian Thonon-Gaillard 0-0 Paris Saint-Germain.
45' + 2'
And after a considerable delay, Daniel Wass fires the ball well over the top of Salvatore Sirigu's goal. That should be that. We're over the allotted time.
45' + 1'
Yellow Card Maxwell
Maxwell booked for arguing, as Evian win a free-kick on the edge of the area. Into one minute of additional time.
Rabiu does well to keep onto possession, sliding the ball to Daniel Wass - but Evian are unable to hold onto the ball as Menez races into an offside position. The flag goes up, and so does a wry smile from the France international.
Lavezzi wins a free-kick, with PSG leading 59% on the possession count. They've been industrial for sure, but lacking the killer touch. The statistic is, that PSG have never beaten Evian here at the Parc des Sports.
Ouch. Poor tackle from Rabiu on Marco Verratti, both of whom are on a yellow card. Verratti takes it in good stead, as play continues. Jallet's cross picked off by Saber Khlifa, who returns to help in defence for once.
LAVEZZI! Great chance, and it's gone begging. Zlatan Ibrahimovic picks up the ball in front of the defence, and he superbly lays on a pass cross-field towards Lavezzi. One touch and shot by the Argentine - but it's flying wide of the post.
Lavezzi's corner is poor, as it flies over every player in the box, before the hosts pick up a free-kick after a foul by the rather quiet Jeremy Menez.
Ibrahimovic with a nice pass towards PAstore, the flick aiding the Argentine's progress. It's out for a corner, to be taken by Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Ten minutes until half-time, and it remains Evian 0-0 Paris Saint-Germain here in Annecy, as the rain begins to fall. Verratti launches a midfield offensive, but to no success as a wayward pass hands possession back.
Fair to say, that Evian are getting under Paris Saint-Germain's skin here, with fouls flying everywhere. The hosts, who sit precariously above the drop zone, are playing at a level which belies their league standing.
Yellow Card Mohammed Rabiu
Mohammed Rabiu becomes the third player, Evian's second - in the book for a rash late challenge on Maxwell. Not good from the Ghanaian midfielder.
Corner delivery is deep, with Alex getting a connection, but only just, as he directs his header wide. Over the half-hour mark now.
PSG in the ascendancy now, as they seek to assert their authority in midfield. They've won a corner, after a half-chance is cleared hurriedly by the defence.
Yellow Card Marco Verratti
And yes, referee Thual goes into his pocket again to brandish a yellow card to Marco Verratti after the young Italian is guilty for a stamp on an Evian player, leading to howls from the home faithful.
Getting a little touchy here in Annecy, as Matuidi gives a deep dark look at Barbosa, and referee Thual after a poor challenge. The referee might have a job on his hands tonight.
Good pass from Pastore, who attempts to feed in Ibrahimovic. But an equally good interception from Mongongu who produces a last-gasp tackle to stop the ball from getting past.
A free-kick goes against PSG, leading to Thiago Silva to laugh and clasp his hands over his mouth sarcastically, and referee Olivier Thual to go over to Ancelotti to tick him off. Carlo's seen red once already this season!
Yellow Card B. Dja Djé Djé
Ezequiel Lavezzi is down momentarily, as Thiago Silva lectures his South America compatriot. He's up after some treatment, as Djadjedje is handed a booking.
Now it's Evian's time to break as Brice Djadjedje makes progress down the left flank. He overruns his cross, which leads to a few Evian players waving their arms in frustration as he clatters into Lavezzi.
PSG GO CLOSE AGAIN! They've done this aplenty this season. Seemingly on the backfoot, and out of nowhere, seem to apply attacking intensity on the other side. This time, a corner drifts in from the back and fired over.
IBRAHIMOVIC! Maxwell delivers in a good free-kick, which allows the Swede to race into an unmarked position, but his effort is blocked by Laquait and out for a corner. Fantastic composure for the striker to get past Mongongu.
PSG sit six points clear of Marseille as the Ligue 1 title race gathers pace. Defeat here would clearly bring OM back into the fold, as the visitors face Lyon too in that run-in.
Brilliant cross in from Ninkovic, into Sagbo who is penalised by referee Olivier Thual. Clear push from the striker on Alex, as he sought to make space. His shot nonetheless, is fired wayward.
Still PSG are on the back foot, as they struggle to maintain possession. Evian are doing well at the moment, as they seek to replicate their Coupe de France victory here two weeks ago.
SAGBO! Good shot, but always rising above Sirigu's post. The hosts are the dominating team at the moment, but are unable to position themselves in the PSG box.
Evian continue to push up, with a shot whistling past Salvatore Sirigu's left post. The Italian goalkeeper was beaten there, but PSG are doing largely well to repel their opponents.
Evian sweep up forward again through Rabiu, who is held off by Maxwell. The left-back does well to use his physical strength to hold off his marker and force the ball back to Thiago Silva.
IBRAHIMOVIC! What a shot, and good save from Bertrand Laquait. A dipping shot from distance, hooked over Cedric Cambon, and forces the goalkeeper to punch away hurriedly.
Sporting director Leonardo and coach Carlo Ancelotti watch on pensively as PSG struggle to hold onto the ball. Rumours earlier this week that both were going to leave the French capital at the end of the season, though that is no longer the case according to the Italian trainer.
Good movement by Yannick Sagbo, who links well with Cedric Barbosa. The Portuguese midfielder, who has eight league goals to his name, attempts to find Milos Ninkovic, but Thiago Silva intercepts.
UNDERWAY IN ANNECY! Evian get us started, attacking from right to left. In their home pink strip, with PSG in their traditional navy blue. Let's hope for a great encounter.
A boisterous atmosphere at Parc des Sports in Annecy as PSG head out of the dressing room, making their way down the tunnel.
TEAM NEWS: Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns from a virus after missing Friday training. Jeremy Menez comes in for Lucas Moura. Elsewhere, Evian make the one change from their last two games, Yannick Sagbo coming in for Kevin Berigaud.
EVIAN THONON GAILLARD: Laquait; Djadjedje, Cambon, Mongongu Wass; Barbosa, Rabiu, Sorlin, Ninkovic, Sagbo, Khlifa
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN: Sirigu, Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Pastore, Verratti, Matuidi, Lavezzi, Menez, Ibrahimovic
CONFIRMED TEAM LINE-UPS:
PSG sit six points clear of Marseille with four to go - they cannot win the title this weekend, but can take another giant step this evening. Evian meanwhile, sit precariously above the drop zone. A win for them could go a long way to securing survival.
PSG travel to the Parc des Sports in Annecy for the second time in two weeks following their Coupe de France tie two weeks ago against Evian. The hosts prevailed then, winning 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra-time. Can Ancelotti's side hit back this evening?
