Dempo SC 4-0 Sporting Clube de Goa: Tolgay stars for Golden Eagles

Dempo SC finally managed to win against the Flaming Oranje after they had failed to register three points in their last six outings…

Sporting Clube de Goa were handed a drubbing by  Dempo SC as they were thrashed 4-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa in a round 20 I-League encounter on Saturday evening.

Goals from Tolgay Ozbey (17th minute pen and 30th minute), Beto (19th minute penalty) and Clifford Miranda (26th minute) were enough to seal three points.

Arthur Papas made one change to his line-up with Selwyn Fernandes being named instead of Haroom Amiri.

Oscar Bruzon included Matthew Gonsalves, Deepak Devrani and Boima Karpeh for Nalappan Mohanraj, Cajetan Fernandes and Victorino Fernandes.

It was the Flaming Oranje who started better of the two outfits with their players thumping the ball for Boima Karpeh and Martins Ekwueme.

Karpeh had a couple of half chances in the first quarter of an hour but failed to make the most of them as he delayed his shot on one occasion and put in a poor cross on another.

However Rojen Singh brought down Ozbey inside the box after Sanju Pradhan crossed for the Australian who controlled it well. However he was fouled inside the box by Deepak Devrani and referee Rahul D'sa had little option but to point towards the spot. Ozbey scored despite Ravi Kumar diving to his right and handed his side the lead in the 17th minute.

A couple of minutes later Clifford Miranda dribbled past a couple of defenders inside the box from the left before being brought down by Keenan Almeida. The result being Beto slotting it to the right of Kumar from the penalty spot to double their lead to add to Sporting’s woes.

In the 26th minute, Ozbey flicked it for Beto who sent a through-ball for Alywn George. The custodian came off his line to make the clearance but George skipped past him and shot towards the goal which was slotted in by Clifford Miranda from handshaking distance.

Ozbey scored his second of the game four minutes later. Miranda found Ozbey from the middle of the park and the latter controlled it well to round off the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

Karpeh came close to pulling one back for his side when his shot from inside the box came off the woodwork.

Ozbey should have had his hat-trick after Miranda did well to keep the ball in play and find him. However the Sporting back-line were alert for once to avert the danger as Ozbey was readying to shoot.

Three minutes into the second half and Sporting players saw their appeal for a penalty turned down. This was after Beevan D’Mello released substitute Victorino Fernandes who skipped past Narayan Das only to be brought down.

Karpeh once again into the thick of the action as he combined well with D’Mello only to see his shot go wide off the post after doing well to get past Simon Colosimo.

At the hour mark, Ozbey found himself inside the box and had only one defender to beat but his tame shot fails to test the Sporting custodian.

Selwyn Fernandes allegedly handled the ball inside the area in the 64th minute but the appeals for a spot-kick fell on deaf ears, much to the disappointment of Sporting.

To make matters worse for Sporting, coach Oscar Bruzon was sent off to the stands for taking his protests too far.

The score-line remained the same until the end as the first half blitz by Dempo SC was too much for Sporting to handle as they deservedly picked up full points.
