Dempo SC - Mumbai FC Preview: The Golden Eagles look to continue hot streak

Mumbai FC

Tolgey Ozbey lead Dempo SC will look to put Mumbai to the sword in their I-League match in Goa..

Khalid Jamil’s Mumbai FC take will take on Goan side Dempo SC in a round 24 I-League clash on Saturday. The sides will square up at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The last time the teams met was in September when the match ended 1-1. Jeje Lalpekhua had given Dempo the lead only to be pegged back by Anwar Ali's goal for Mumbai.

This time around, Arthur Papas side will look to continue their good form which has seen them pick up 4 victories in their last 5 matches. Dempo are fourth on the table with 31 points in total, 7 points ahead of a Mumbai side on 24. Mumbai picked up a much needed victory in Shillong in their last match, a game they won 2-1 to ease their relegation fears.

The Golden Eagles ran out 4-1 winners against local rivals Churchill Brothers, with star striker Tolgay Ozbey grabbing all the goals in an incredible showing. Mumbai picked up a credible 2-1 victory against Shillong Lajong away from home with Liberian striker Alfred Jaryan and Ashutosh Mehta scoring in a victory that saw them rise to 11th in the standings.

Despite his side’s good run of form after the turn of the year, and the fact that Mumbai have never beaten Dempo in Goa in the I-League, Arthur Papas refuses to take the opposition lightly.

“They (Mumbai FC) are a tricky team to come up against, they defend quite deep and depend a lot on their transition to attack and set-pieces, also they are team which has street smarts and try to make an advantage in every situation”

He took note of the fact that Mumbai try to make the best of a tough situation and eke out results and said that that his side will have to give hundred percent.

"Mumbai FC has shown all year they are a very competitive team and proving that again by defeating Shilong last week which not many in the league have been able to do. All week we have spoken about how tricky a fixture this could be if we are not at 100% in every part of the game."

Mumbai will be bolstered by the form of Yusif Yakubu who scored a 50-yard stunner in the 2-2 draw with East Bengal. Midfielder Ashutosh Mehta has also been in great touch and will hope on carry on in the same vein.

Expect a tough encounter with Dempo wanting to continue their run and Mumbai looking to sneak a win.
