Arthur Papas' side edged past Armando Colaco's outfit on Sunday with Tolgay Ozbey scoring the winner...

Dempo SC registered a 1-0 victory over ten-man East Bengal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa with Tolgay Ozbey scoring the only goal in the 70th minute. Gurwinder Singh was given his marching orders just before the half-time by referee Vishnu Chauhan for retaliating against Haroon Amiri.

Arthur Papas made on change to his line-up from the 2-0 win against Rangdajied United as Sanju Pradhan came in for the injured Peter Carvalho. Armando Colaco brought in Joaquim Abranches, Saumik Dey and Cavin Lobo for James Moga, Robert Lalthlamuana and Abhishek Das.

Pradhan played in a delightful ball for Ozbey upfront who failed to control it on the first touch and as a result the opportunity went wasted.

East Bengal’s first chance came in the 20th minute when Cavin Lobo cut in from the left and unleashed a right footed shot which was well saved by Laxmikant Kattimani.

Seven minutes later, Ryuji Sueoka went past a couple of players and saw his attempt go straight into the hands of the Dempo custodian.

Just after the half hour mark, Alwyn George missed out on a tap-in from a Beto cross.

The second half started positively for Dempo with lot of attacking vigour, but still they didn’t seem to create clear cut chances.

East Bengal were clearly rattled by that red card as they just did not seem to get their game going. To add to their woes, Chidi Edeh had to be substituted as he got injured with James Moga replacing him in the 47th minute.

The deadlock was broken in the 70th minute when Tolgay Ozbey headed in from a Clifford Miranda cross from the left.

There were a few attacks going forward which were intercepted easily by the Dempo defense.

Dempo were looking to double their lead with a barrage of long shots but to no avail. They held on to the lead and took three valuable points which took them to sixth spot in the I-League standings. East Bengal are on the eighth position with 19 points from 13 gsmes.
