  • The full-time whistle is blown and it ends Brazil 2-2 England. The Three Lions were well off the pace in the first half but Hart kept the hosts at bay, however Fred opened the scoring just before the hour mark. Goals from Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rooney then saw Hodgson's men take the lead as they improved a little, however a late goal from Paulinho levelled the scores once more.

    We're back underway.
  • It's 0-0 at half-time and it really has been uninspiring stuff from England. Brazil have had the majority of the ball and created plenty of chances, the likes of Neymar, Oscar and Hulk keeping Hart busy. Hodgson's men, meanwhile, have struggled to hold on to the ball for the little time they've had it and have made just one real opening.
  • 45'
One minute of added time in Rio.
  • 42'
Luiz heads clear but only as far as Frank Lampard, the England midfielder shoots at goal but Cesar just about holds on to it.
  • 41'
Oscar crosses from the right with Fred rising highest to get on the end of it, but he heads over the bar.
  • 39'
England's first real chance falls to Walcott after some good work from Johnson but Cesar saves well.
  • 36'
Hulk nearly opens the scoring with an intricate little backheel after Oscar's cross but it trickles wide of the post.
  • 35'
Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott combine as England push forward but the former's shot is blocked by Luiz.
  • 33'
Another attempt from Brazil but it's well over the bar from Hulk this time. England literally cannot get hold of the ball.
  • 32'
    Substitution Leighton Baines Ashley Cole
  • 32'
Neymar rolls another shot on goal, but it's very weak and Hart scoops it up with ease.
  • 30'
Hart keeps the score at 0-0 yet again as he palms away a strike from Oscar.
  • 28'
Alves tests Hart with another decent long range effort but, once again, the Manchester City man saves well.
  • 27'
Neymar finds Hulk with a neat ball in behind the England defence but Hart rushes out quickly and makes a fine save. The keeper then scrambles the ball away from a potential rebound and out for a corner.
  • 25'
Gary Cahill's clearance only goes as far as Oscar who manages to get a dangerous low cross into England's six-yard box. Johnson is in the right place at the right time and gets an important touch on the ball, while doing well not to score an own goal.
  • 22'
Neymar turns away from Carrick before unleashing a curling shot at goal but it doesn't quite dip enough and clears the bar.
  • 21'
Thiago Silva shrugs Phil Jagielka off the ball all to easily before the Brazilian defender is able to get a shot away, however it's a tame effort and Hart saves comfortably.
  • 19'
Neymar is almost able to get the first goal of the game after getting free of Glen Johnson, who also fails to clear the danger once getting back into position, but Hart makes the save from point-blank range.
  • 17'
Alves fires a strike at goal from distance which has Hart scrambling but goes just wide of the post.
  • 15'
England are looking very sloppy on the ball at the moment. They go all the way back to Hart who then kicks it straight out for a throw.
  • 12'
Neymar has another free kick but his delivery is poor and floats behind for a goal kick.
  • 11'
Our man Ewan Roberts' take on the game so far: "England's formation is a little hard to decipher at the moment. Theo Walcott is playing very much on the right flank, not up front, in what looks like a 4-5-1 - though England are already being forced to scurry back in numbers to defend an expansive and fluid Brazil side."
  • 9'
Michael Carrick brings down Oscar and Brazil have a free kick in a good position, Neymar hits it but Joe Hart saves with ease.
  • 8'
Dani Alves brings a cross-field ball down beautifully but no-one in a Brazil shirt can get on the end of his cross. The hosts are firmly in control at the moment.
  • 5'
The first half chance falls to Neymar but his attempted bicycle kick is blocked and England get the ball clear.
  • 3'
Brazil have started as the dominant side in possession, as you might expect, but are yet to create any openings.
  • 1'
    And we're off.
  • Just moments away from kick-off now, let's hope for an entertaining clash!
  • It all looks very colourful as the Brazilian players and fans proudly sing their national anthem. And the stadium is still standing, too. Lovely.
  • Our man Ewan Roberts reports: "The last time England visiting the Maracana Stadium – which will play host to the World Cup final next year – John Barnes scored a memorable solo goal, dividing a sea of yellow shirts and blue shorts. After England's dull and predictable performance against Ireland, how the Three Lions could use some similar magic tonight. Phil Jones and James Milner, though, are probably not the men to provide it."
  • So a slightly experimental England side for the clash in Rio, with some debate over how they will line-up in midfield. There have been some suggestions that it could be a flat 4-4-2 with Phil Jones out wide, with others indicating there will be a bit more shape. Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
