Bengaluru FC 3-0 Rangdajied United: Bangalore boys cruise past the north eastern outfit

Bengaluru FC

The fledgling club registered their first full points of the season as they got the better of the promoted side...

Bengaluru FC eased past Rangdajied United 3-0 at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Sunday with goals coming from John Johnson, Sean Rooney and Sunil Chhetri. The visitors are yet to register a point to their name as they succumbed to their second defeat in as many games.

Ashley Westwood made two changes to the team that started against Mohun Bagan, Sunil Chhetri and Darren Caldeira came in for Malemngamba Meetei and Thoi Singh.

Rangdajied United looked a different outfit from the one which played United SC last week as Santosh Kashyap ringed in five changes, with the most notable being Shambhu Mistry in place of Surjay Pariyar in goal.

It was the home side who started better as they attacked the opposition from the onset. John Johnson headed wide from a set-piece despite being unmarked while Keegan Pereira’s left footed attempt went wide of the top right corner after being set up by Chhetri.

Sean Rooney found the back of the net but was flagged offside and minutes later, Mistry and Ambilstar Sunn cleared the danger.

However the breakthrough eventually came in the 33rd minute when a Beikhokhei Beingaichho’s corner-kick saw Johnson head it home.

Thereafter Edmar Figueira and Yohei Iwasaki combined well down the left but their move was cut short by Johnson.

The final chance before the half befell Beingaichho whose hasty effort went wide after Chhetri crossed from the left.

Seven minutes after the break, Edmar picked up a loose ball in the Bengaluru box and tested Pawan Kumar who did well to make the save.

Rooney opened his account for the new club in the 57th minute as Beingaichho cut past Khriam on the right and found the former Salgaocar striker who got the better of Ambilstar by putting his head to good use.

The home side continued to pile on pressure and they were rewarded with a third goal. Sunil Chhetri was found in an on-side position by Rooney and the India skipper made no mistakes by slotting the ball home past a hapless Mistry.

The away side never really threatened the opposition as Bengaluru FC didn’t have to break sweat in order to keep their lead intact in the closing stages.
