The newbies of the I-League are one of the three teams to remain unbeaten while Dempo will be looking to ride on their win over East Bengal...Bengaluru FC have a tough task on their hand as they face Dempo SC on Wednesday in round six of the I-League.
They are yet to play away from home but credit to them for their consistency so far. John Johnson has been their star performer, much to the surprise of many, not just for his defending but also regularly popping up to score goals at the other end.
The I-League debutants also have other names like Biekhokhei Beingaichho and Thoi Singh who have done well for them.
On the other hand, Dempo SC might have had a forgetful start losing the opener 0-3 to Shillong Lajong and registering three back-to-back draws there on, but bounced back with an emphatic victory over East Bengal by a 3-1 score-line.
The win over the Red and Gold would have definitely injected the much needed confidence back into the Goan side as they look to climb up the ladder, currently occupying the seventh spot.
Bengaluru coach Westwood accepted that Dempo could provide his team with a big test. “Our team is in good spirits but Dempo are a good side. I saw their last game on TV. They have one of the best squads in the league. They’re certainly going to provide us with a big test,” he said.
Meanwhile Clifford Miranda, the Dempo SC skipper, mentioned that, “It’s always nice to come back to winning ways. We were always confident but it was just a matter of time before we started clicking as a team.”
“They (BFC) have played four home games and that gives them an advantage. Any team that plays these many home games in one stretch has an advantage. Set pieces have been their strength. We’ve worked on it but it only takes one moment to get it wrong,” he added.
The left winger had scored the opener against East Bengal, while a brace by Beto sealed the affair in Dempo's favour. Dempo's defence hasn't been their strongest point but they had an improved showing against East Bengal. It will be interesting to see how they contain the home side's attack.
