Typically had his moments which would have put the hearts of the Camp Nou faithful in their mouths. Was worryingly lazy in possession but ended up getting away with it.
Was unluckily awarded a yellow card just four minutes into the match when he clashed with Koke in midfield, but didn't let this deter from his performance as he made some great blocks on the edge of the box.
Tested the gloves of Courtois early on with a strike from 25 yards and showed a decent engine up and down the left all evening. Was slightly wasteful from some crosses, though.
Most of Barcelona's play came down the right-hand side through his crosses and he managed to get some superb balls into the box, but none were taken advantage of by team-mates.
Displayed an assured touch on the ball but actively attempted to take the tempo out of Atletico's play by going down injured. One proved to be legitimate as he was taken off in the second half with a hip knock.
Was bright in the opening stages as Barcelona looked to dominate from the off, but only had one or two meaningful penetrative passes of note for the rest of the match.
Had some dodgy moments early on when in possession as his distribution wasn't particularly good but did make some terrific challenges, in particular a tackle on Villa in the last few minutes.
Looked much more comfortable in his preferred central midfield position than in the front three and was composed in his passing. Initiated the attack for the opening goal when he dinked the ball into the box for Messi.
Opened the scoring midway through the first half when he latched on to a chest down from Messi to fire a wonderful half-volley into the top-right corner. Lightning-quick feet enabled him to create openings inside the box.
Should have opened the scoring in the first half when he latched on to a superb Dani Alves cross at the back post, only to direct a header wide. Didn't really have a positive impact and was subbed on the hour mark.
Had a quiet opening 30 minutes in which he was trying to force the play slightly, but came into life towards the end of the period as he chested down to assist Alexis' opener. Didn't really have a dangerous moment of note for himself, though.
Only had one thing to deal with in terms of shot-stopping but brilliantly tipped Dani Alves' long-range strike over the bar. Took the pressure of his defence by claiming crosses out of the air.
Initially kept tight to Alexis in the build-up to the opening goal but eventually allowed the Barca man to break away in the channel, which created the space for him to shoot and score. Great fitness was a real asset in the latter stages.
Failed to get tight to Messi inside the box for the opening goal as the Argentine chested down to Alexis, and then turned his back on the resulting shot from the Chilean. Recovered from his mistake and became a rock at the back.
Showed plenty of attacking ambition in the opening stages as he regularly hit the byline to get crosses in on the overlap. Reverted back into defensive mode for the rest of the match, where he was solid in the tackle.
Was hesitant in the build-up to the first goal as he initially stepped out to follow the run of Pedro, which opened up space for Messi in behind. Earned redemption moments after the break with a bullet header to make it 1-1, which proved to be the goal to win the league.
Didn't keep his head after going a goal down and showed real signs of frustration as he scythed down Fabregas just outside the centre circle. His experienced head proved to be gold dust in the latter stages.
Strength and fight was great, as well as his ability to retain possession whilst under massive pressure. Took the spotlight off his defence in the last few minutes with a few runs into the channels.
A real captain's performance, epitomised in the last minute when he won the ball on the edge of the box and shook off the tackles of three Barca players before bursting through the middle to run down the clock.
Was guilty of being a little late to react on the ball whenever he received it to feet, but was extremely unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as he fired an excellent left-footed strike off the bottom of the post.
