Distribution was atrocious from the back as he regularly heaped pressure on his defense with poor clearances. Did make some good point blank saves though.
Combined with Guzan to make an excellent close range block early on to deny Gomis. Deployed at left back which slightly hampered his ability to hit the byline and get crosses in.
Passing out of defense was decent as it allowed Delph and co. to quickly catalyze counterattacks. Made some good headed clearances.
Saved his side from going behind in the first half as he showed superb alertness to get back after a Guzan mistake and clear off the line from a Routledge strike. Was bullied at times by the strength of Gomis, though, no more so than the winning goal.
Took a little while to show any attacking ambition but became more confident as the game went on and did provide some width. Never really sent a particularly telling pass or cross inside though.
Was outnumbered for large periods of the match but still positively effected the play when on the ball. Sent some lovely balls into the channels for the strikes and wingers, and tested Fabianski with a lashed strike.
Typically cut inside on his left foot from his position on the right wing and smashed a few speculative shots and crosses into the area. Pace was a real asset on the counterattack.
Didn't prosper in midfield due the numbers of Swansea during his time on the pitch but was withdrawn midway through the half due to injury.
Could have created a little more coming off the left wing but did snake a couple of incisive passes in behind the Swansea defense for the strikers. Should have done a little better from strikes from inside the area.
Physical presence proved to be a danger as he had the better of the Villa defense at points. Link up play was good but didn't show enough of a direct threat to goal.
Made some decent runs to stretch the Swansea defense but couldn't get into any dangerous positions to get a shot away.
Proactively came off his line to collect crosses which took the pressure off his defense. Was tested a couple of times at his front post but made a couple of solid stops.
Battled hard at left back and put some really good tackles in, but was left wanting whenever N'Zogbia displayed a bit of trickery near the touchline.
Got a bit of a nosebleed whenever in an advanced position down the right which didn't exactly help his side, who were begging for some width at times.
Was disciplined in his positioning at the back but chose the correct time to move out and try and win the ball. Earned some clever free kicks out of Benteke.
Was composed in his possession at the back despite being put under massive pressure from the Villa attackers. Put in a goal-saving interception at the back post to deny Agbonlahor.
Set pieces weren't as dangerous as usual and failed to really link the midfield and attack with any kind of authority. Withdrawn just after the hour mark.
Didn't seem as willing as usual to pull off those signature passes over the top of the defense for his attackers. Was still calm enough on the ball to retain the ball regularly
Started the match brilliantly and was largely responsible for Swansea's domination of the ball. Sent some superb reversed passes into the box for his strikers.
Drifted around from his position up top and stretched the defense, which gave Gomis more room to effect the game. Had a hand in the winner but should have made it 2-0 late with a one-on-one with Guzan.
Rigidly kept to his position in front of his defense which wasn't really required as Villa didn't have a creative player in that area. Solid enough but probably could have contributed more.
Always looked the most likely source for a Swansea goal. Snatched at a couple of earlier chances and proved to be the match winner after a predatory finish from inside the box.
