Made some terrific saves from Milner, Zabaleta, Tevez and Dzeko with the game goalless.
Vital slip caused the opening goal, but made a good block from Dzeko after the break. Decent display, but did cost his team with an untimely slip.
A quiet performance. Often overran in the first half when Yaya and Silva came down his side. A couple of decent crosses from the by-line and deep.
Performed solidly alongside Clark, particularly in the air, but was troubled, understandably, by Tevez's varied attacks.
Solid display on the whole. Made a great tackle on Tevez early and denied the Argentine on the line after the break. Flashed a fierce effort just wide, made some good interceptions.
Some good touches and decent in possession, but seemed reluctant to play the killer pass. Booked late on and will miss crunch game against Reading.
Did very little in the middle. Overran by Yaya when he was in the mood, and outmanoeuvred by Javi Garcia.
Another disappointing display. Nowhere near enough influence considering his station behind Benteke.
Intelligent movement and maintenance of possession, but lacking the spark he has had to show so often this season.
Caused all sorts of problems for City, both in the air and on the rare occasions he was given the ball on the ground.
Caused Zabaleta some problems with his pace but, as ever, threatened with little else.
Looked shaky early on with a poor punch, but had little else to do.
Read game well, cut out a couple of promising Villa counter-attacks and won some important headers.
Did a reasonable job without every really excelling either defensively or going forward.
Solid display at the back. Troubled by the physicality of Benteke early on but grew into the battle. Quick across the ground and good in the tackle.
Troubled by the pace of Agbonlahor but shone going forward. Almost opened the scoring but for a fine save, and often got in dangerous positions.
Showed glimpses of his best form when given the opportunity to wriggle out of challenges, but, one late pass aside, looked incapable of producing his trademark through-balls.
Like Silva, showed flashes of the form that made him the premier midfielder in the division last season. Strong running on a couple of occasions but nothing too impressive.
Easily outpaced when isolated, but able to quietly make his passes when given space. Missed a good chance late on when free at a corner. Typical water-carrying performance.
Gradually got his shots closer to the target as the match wore on. Provided an option on the left on midfield, filled in at left-back and in the middle, but without any great effect.
Did little before being withdrawn early with an injury.
The best player on the pitch. Showed the great ball control that, when combined with his terrier spirit, makes him such a dangerous opponent. Scored a brilliant opener and went very close to an even better second. Bafflingly substituted.
Came on for Tevez and did a solid job of keeping possession without ever troubling the Villa defence.
Came on for a token boo but had no time to do anything.
Involved in the build-up to Tevez's goal, by fair means or foul, and became the main point of attack after the Argentine's withdrawal.
