An outstanding display by the busier of the two goalkeepers. His catching, reflex saves and command of his penalty aera were flawless. Could do nothing about either of the two goals.
Battling display in the unfamiliar left-back role. Made some excellent clearances but did not get forward nearly as often as usual.
On his full Premier League debut, the 19-year-old right-back looked a little bewildered at times but his crossing was impressive and he just about kept his head above water in defensive situations. Suffered cramp late on.
Limped off in the opening quarter of an hour after pulling up with a back injury as the club's injury crisis mounted.
Arsenal would have been lost without him. Read the game superbly throughout and made a briliant headed clearance from a sizzling early Adam free-kick. Shepherded Miquel through his Premier League debut.
Looked a little lost against Liverpool's more experienced midfield although was extremely unfortunate for the own goal, when Miquel's clearance hit his head and looped over Szczesny.
Fetching name, eye-catching hairstyle and full of bustling commitment on his full Premier League debut. Harshly yellow-carded early on for stopping Henderson take a quick throw-in but could have few complaints about the second yellow for a wild tackle on Lucas. Looked devastated by his dismissal but can hold his head high after a promising display.
With reports emerging from France that his contract negotiations with Man City have broken down, the Frenchman and Arsenal fans may have to fall back in love with one another. After being booed by a section of fans when the teams were announced, Nasri was better received during the game for a lively display. Showed few signs of rustiness in the 'Fabregas' role, shooting narrowly wide after one brilliant run across two-thirds of the pitch and always looking the main source of danger to Liverpool.
Further evidence of his new Mister Angry personna but a generally non-existent display by the wide attacker apart from a second half flurry. Replaced by Bendtner late on.
Like a misfiring water tap, he ran typically hot and cold. Some good touches, quite a few poor ones. Subbed with 18 minutes left.
R. van Persie
Always a threat with his explosiveness and came close to opening the scoring in the second half, but Arsenal's new captain got little change out of Liverpool's defence.
Made a fine save with his legs from Van Persie in the second half and always looked in command in his penalty area on a quieter afternoon than he would have expected.
Silky display by the classy Dane. Looked in complete control against Arsenal's attack, apart from one mistimed tackle that almost ended in a Nasri wonder goal.
Had a few early communication issues with Reina but completely smothered the threat of Walcott.
Excellent display from the recalled right-back. Pugnacious in defence and showed genuine quality when he surged forward. Hit the outside of the post with a fierce second-half shot.
Barked out instructions like a veteran sergeant-major but also backed up his leadership with firm deeds, including one outstanding clearance from a Walcott cross.
Another impressive showing from the former Aston Villa player. Looked lively on both flanks and caused problems with his directness and strong running.
Nearly did an 'Alonso' when his brilliant effort from the halfway line narrowly went over the bar of the backtracking Szczesny. Showed encouraging signs alongside Lucas with his wide passing range and fizzing set pieces although he was often too slow to recover possession.
Energy, aggression and the bedrock of Liverpool's victory. Never gave Arsenal's flair players a moment's peace, and helped keep Nasri on a tight leash.
Unconvincing display in the advanced midfielder role just behind Carroll. Wasted some good positions and his first touch was often poor.
One excellent first-half header apart, he did not cause the patched-up Arsenal defence as many problems as might have been expected. Looked wooden and cumbersome when the ball was on the floor.
Great commitment from the Dutchman on both flanks, and played a big role in nullifying any attacking threat from Arsenal's full-backs. Replaced by Meireles late on.
- 21 Ł. Fabiański
Looked comfortable on the ball, and, at times, classy, but struggled in aerial situations. Had a major hand in Ramsey's own goal.
- 31 R. Miyaichi
Replaced Arshavin when Frimpong was dismissed to bring some tenacity to the midfield but lacked discipline and was yellow-carded.
- 15 A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
- 29 M. Chamakh
Replaced Walcott on the right flank for the last 10 minutes but made little impact.
- 32 Doni
- 38 J. Flanagan
- 37 M. Škrtel
- 20 J. Spearing
Exciting cameo from the Portugese. Played a big hand in both of Liverpool's goals, including great selflessness to slide in Suarez for the second.
- 11 M. Rodríguez
Instantly made Liverpool more dangerous when he replaced Carroll up front for the last 20 minutes. Linked with Meireles for the first goal, effortlessly finished off the second and caused considerable problems to Arsenal's tiring defenders with his pace and movement.
