It is odd for teams to be playing their first encounter of the season when it is on the verge of conclusion. Air India will be up against the Red Lizards from Pune at the Balewadi Sports Complex later today.
The Airmen, under new coach Naushad Moosha, have looked a better attacking force than before but have also been leaking goals in plenty. Winless in six games, the Airmen are looking for a break in that record. Having let in 11 goals in their last 3 games, Moosha would have to find a way to keep a check on his side's defensive frailty. They will be up against a Pune FC side who were once title contenders but now are aiming for a reasonable finish to the campaign.
Pune meanwhile are on the verge of another impressive season under Derrick Pereira. The Red Lizards will have a double header against the Airmen in consecutive weeks. Pune are on the back of a vital away win at ONGC FC and will look to make it a double over public sector clubs when they take on Air India at Pune.
Pereira's side will hold an advantage as they have games in hand which they have to win to ensure third or second spot in the league. The Goan coach has the benefit of having a very good squad at his disposal which he will look to use to ensure a respectable finish for the team from Maharashtra.
Air India: Boboi Singh will be unavailable because of a red card in the previous game against Mohun Bagan. The rest of the team is expected to bear a similar look to the one that took the field at Kolkata last week.
Pune FC: Derrick Pereira will be without winger Karma Tsewang who picked up an ankle injury in the win over ONGC last week. Defender Chika Wali is due to suspension. Gurjinder Kumar will return to first team contention and is likely to start. Khanthang Paite, Caitano Costa and Subash Singh are fit and available for selection.
