The postponed match from Round 17 of the I-League will finally take place with Air India going up against ONGC. It will be interesting to see the morale of both these sides after the Indian FA's decision to relegate both, due to not fulfilling the AFC club licensing criterion.
The hosts have had their fair share of problems as the lack of consistency in their performances have seen them plummet from being a strong mid-table side to a side battling for survival. Naushad Moosa has officially taken charge of the Airmen and the home side will hope for an improved performance under the new man. Moosa trained with the players a few days ago but then skipped recent training as his father passed away.
The former Mumbai FC U-19 coach will try his best to lift the gloom and doom surrounding the outfit, and will look to drag themselves out.
If you look at form, ONGC have done brilliantly under Santosh Kashyap and are a tough proposition for all the teams in the league. At 7th position, the Oilmen are a bag of confidence as they have brushed past much stronger opponents with ease in their recent displays with the likes of East Bengal and Dempo falling prey. Kashyap though had said that it was hard to motivate players after the decision of banning them from participating in the next iteration of the I-League.
It is difficult to predict if the decision would affect a team brimming with confidence as ONGC are, but what happens on Sunday will be worth the wait. The visitors will try to continue their good run of form while the hosts will look for a fresh start under new boss Naushad Moosa.
Air India: Gagandeep Singh and Ramandeep Singh are out injured and have not travelled with the squad.
ONGC: Joel Sequeira too is out of action with a niggle.
