Live Commentary

  • That is it from us at, but be sure to stick with us for all the post-match news and analysis. Thanks a lot for joining us tonight. My name is Tom Webber and it has been a pleasure to guide you through an enthralling cup match. Enjoy your evenings.
  • FT Bayern 1-0 Dortmund: An absolute screamer from Robben in the first half is enough to booke die Roten a spot in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal. Jupp Heynckes side remain in real contention for a marvelous treble this season.
  • 90' + 4'
    SubstitutionToni Kroos Jerome Boateng
  • 90' + 4'
  • 90' + 3'
Bayern look to wind down the clock by replacing Kroos with Boateng. Surely only a matter of moments left now.
  • 90' + 2'
THAT WAS THE CHANCE!! Piszczek is given space to surge into down the right and his brilliant cross finds Schieber in the area. The striker gets his head on the ball but does not keep it down and Neuer breathes a sigh of relief.
  • 90' + 2'
They cannot! Schmelzer's delivery is headed away by the Bayern defence and the left-back's second attempt is too long and goes behind for a corner. The hosts are just moments away from a semi-final berth now.
  • 90' + 1'
    SubstitutionMario Mandzukic M. Gómez
  • 90'
BVB will get another chance to send the ball into the box with a stoppage-time free kick in the Bayern area! Can they get a last-gasp equaliser?
  • 89'
Subotic moves forward to help put pressure on the Bayern defence and he manages to send in a cross from the left, but Neuer comes out to claim it.
  • 88'
Schieber's overhead kick flies over! Schmelzer's delivery is not dealt with by the Bayern defence and the substitute goes for the acrobatic effort from the penalty stop. It does not provide a magical moment as the ball sails well above the goal.
  • 87'
That was almost it! Mandzukic peeled away from his marker and found acres of space in the area. He met a cross from the right with his head but was unable to get enough power on it to guide it past Weidenfeller.
  • 86'
BVB are looking nowhere near as threatening as they did earlier in the half. In fact, they are looking increasingly vulnerable and could yet concede another.
  • 84'
Kuba drives into the box from the left and looks ready to pull the trigger with his right boot but Dante makes a cracking challenge. The Brazilian then remains cool to play the ball out of danger. He has had a very good evening.
  • 82'
With the departure of Reus it makes it increasingly unlikely that Dortmund will find an equaliser, especially through his replacement, Schieber. With just under 10 minutes left it looks as though Bayern could be about to close this out and enhance their treble dreams a fair bit!
  • 81'
    SubstitutionMarco Reus Julian Schieber
  • 80'
OFF THE LINE!! Another Kroos corner is met by a Bayern shirt in the area, this time Dante is the man to connect. He powers a header down at the ground but Gotze, who is standing on the post, stops it from going in. The rebound is met again by the Brazilian but his second attempt is turned over by Weidenfeller.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionThomas Müller Luiz Gustavo
  • 78'
    Yellow Card Mario Mandzukic
  • 78'
Mandzukic picks up a somewhat unfortunate yellow card after challenging for a header with Schmelzer. The referee indicates his feeling that the Croatian left in an elbow, much to the striker's bewilderment.
  • 76'
Gundogan sends it wide! An awful attempt at defending from Muller gives the Dortmund midfielder a chance to shoot from the top of the box. He cuts across the ball and the swerve sees it bend away from goal, leaving Neuer unworried.
  • 74'
Just over 15 minutes and BVB still find themselves one goal down. Klopp has very few options in terms of goal-scoring talent on the bench, with Julian Schieber the only substitute who could threaten in the final third.
  • 72'
JUST OVER!! Kroos swings in the resultant corner from the right and Van Buyten is gifted a free header. However, he is unable to keep the effort down and it drops on the top of the net.
  • 71'
GREAT STRIKE!! Martinez launches an absolute rocket at Weidenfeller's goal that the keeper is forced to turn over with a leaping, stretching save.
  • 70'
The urgency is really setting in to Klopp's men now. They are pressing for an equaliser but could well find themselves caught short at the back if the continue to commit too many men forward.
  • 68'
Santana makes a rare venture forward to try and ignite an attack for his team and actually succeeds. The movement is good and Lewandowski soon slips a pass into the path of Kuba. The winger takes the ball into his stride but as he cannot pick out a team-mate in the box after checking back onto his right foot.
  • 67'
    Yellow Card Toni Kroos
  • 65'
This is a vastly improved performance from BVB since the break. They have maintained their high pressing and congestion of the midfield when not in possession but have added more adventure to their play. Do you think we could be seeing extra time tonight?
  • 63'
    Yellow Card Javi Martínez
  • 63'
That was a disappointing performance from Grosskreutz. He did very little of note throughout his stint and was fairly poor in possession. He did not his chances of nailing down a first team spot any good.
  • 62'
    SubstitutionKevin Großkreutz Jakub Blaszczykowski
  • 62'
Lewandowski is finding a lot more space in the final third now and he wins his team a free kick in a dangerous area on the left. He beat Javi Martinez to the ball but was brought down by the Spaniard who earned a yellow card for his challenge.
  • 60'
SO CLOSE!! That is truly exquisite football from Bayern. Robben's low cross from the right is teed up beautifully by Muller for Kroos but he cannot poke the ball past Weidenfeller. Mandzukic rattles the bar from the rebound but is adjudged to have been offside.
  • 58'
JUST WIDE!! BVB are starting to link up nicely in attack again, with Gotze playing Reus in on the right of the area. Reus strikes for the far post but has to watch his effort drift just the wrong side of it, going out for a goal kick.
  • 57'
What a slice! Santana makes a real hash of an attempted clearance and ends up needlessly conceding a corner. The Brazilian soon atones for that error, though, as he rises highest to nod away Kroos' delivery.
  • 55'
Klopp has clearly signalled to his players to attack more in this half. They are currently penning Bayern back in their own half and they manage to win a corner as Neuer fails to stop Gundogan's deflected effort from going behind.
  • 53'
Positive signs for Dormund! Lewandowski finally manages to get his head up when in possession and he passes the ball inside to Gundogan. The midfielder strikes it well enough but sends it too close to Neuer who dives to his right to make the save.
  • 51'
BVB are unable to cope when Bayern switch the play from one flank to the other. Another brilliant sweeping pass picks out Robben who is hugging the right flank. He then sends it into the path of Kross whose weak header from the top of the box is caught comfortably by Weidenfeller.
  • 50'
That is sloppy from Grosskreutz as he gives the ball away to Muller in the middle of the pitch. Fortunately for him he has enough team-mates back to stop the forward from bursting down the line and causing any damage.
  • 48'
A great chance for Dortmund to punish the hosts on the counterattack is wasted as Gotze's pass from the right is sent behind Reus. Klopp makes his displeasure at the failure known there.
  • 48'
Once more it was that channel between Schmelzer and Santana that was the one exploited. There seems to be very little communication between the pair, contributing to BVB's evident frailty in defence this evening.
  • 46'
Bayern immediately forge a chance to shoot! Van Buyten's long ball up to Muller is brought down superbly in the area but his cutback is blocked from reaching Mandzukic. What a start that would have been!
  • 46'
Here we go, the second 45 minutes have begun!
  • Welcome back! The teams are making their way back out on to the pitch so the second half is not far away.
  • HT Bayern 1-0 Dortmund: It cannot be denied that Bayern deservedly lead having enjoyed a far superior amount of possession, though BVB's energy in closing the space must be admired. Yet the visitors have looked poor at the back and Robben's goal ensures they have it all to do in the second half. Be sure to join me for that in 15 minutes!
  • 45' + 1'
There is hardly any additional time and the half-time whistle goes!
  • 43'
    Assist Philipp Lahm
  • 43'
    Goal Arjen Robben
GOOOAAAALLL!! Robben does not fail this time! Lahm's hard work down the right put BVB on the back foot and after seeing his cross come straight back, he lays the ball to the winger. Robben takes a touch before curling a brilliant left-footed effort past Weidenfeller and into the top corner.
  • 41'
Robben is almost in again following a nice one-touch move, but the assistant referee on the far side raises his flag. It would not have probably mattered though, Weidenfeller was again out to thwart the Dutchman.
  • 40'
WHAT A CHANCE! This time it is Subotic who is culpable for some lax defending, allowing Robben to break into the box. Weidenfeller races out to close down the winger, making the goal small and forcing him to put too much on his shot which loops over the bar.
  • 38'
Muller receives the ball with his back to goal but only has Piszczek to beat, 30 yards from goal. However, he fails to draw the ball in and the Dortmund full-back manages to take possession and send it up the right wing.
  • 36'
SUPER FOOTBALL! Schweinsteiger clips a lovely pass over the top of the defence to Javi Martinez who is the next Bayern player to exploit the space left by Santana. He strikes the ball first time and it looks destined for the corner, however, Weidenfeller gets enough on it to slow it down before chasing back to stop it from rolling in behind him.
  • 35'
Bayern are stepping up the pressure now as a whipped cross from the left is sent behind by Santana, stopping his compatriot Dante from connecting with it and possibly testing Weidenfeller.
  • 34'
Sumptuous stuff from Gotze! Having dribbled down the right flank, he cuts inside of Alaba with a lovely step-over combination. He then pokes the ball through the legs of Dante but puts too much on it and loses control. So nearly a great moment.
  • 32'
A long diagonal ball from Dante is kept in play by Muller and eventually sent back to Schweinsteiger. The midfielder switches the play to Robben successfully but the Dutchman cannot match his team-mate with an equally impressive pass into the box and Dortmund clear.
  • 30'
Bayern starting to look as though they are running out of ideas as to how to break down this resilient, compact Dortmund side. Mandzukic has barely been involved so far, with Robben also rather quite out on the wings.
  • 28'
If BVB can get to half time with the game scoreless then they will undoubtedly be pleased with their performance. Bayern though, need to show that scything, clinical edge that has seen them put up amongst the favourites to lift the Champions League this season.
  • 26'
Borussia Dortmund's defeat in the Super Cup of August 2012 is the only time they have lost at the Allianz Arena in their last four visits. A 1-1 draw earlier this season was preceded by two Bundesliga victories in the Bavarian city.
  • 24'
Klopp's men are still pressing high up the pitch, not allowing the Bayern players much time to settle on the ball. They will occasionally allow Dante time to sit on it at half way but then push bodies back to congest the midfield, making it difficult for Bayern to move forward.
  • 22'
We are almost one quarter of the way through this game and I think it is fair to say that Bayern have been on top. They have enjoyed the majority of possession but Dortmund are still trying to play some lovely football when they enter the opposing half. If they can hold out for a while longer they have every chance of nicking a goal.
  • 19'
Mandzukic finds space between Schmelzer and Santana and is fed down that channel on Dortmund's right. He attempts to find the far corner with an ambitious shot but it does not worry Weidenfeller who simply watches it roll beyond his far post.
  • 18'
Santana is lucky there. Muller beats the Brazilian to the ball and pokes it towards the byeline from just inside the area. Fortunately for the Dortmund man his opponent does his best to avoid him and the ball rolls out of play. Against another type of player a penalty claim could well have followed.
  • 16'
Dortmund try to get the ball in the box from the left but Neuer races out of his goal and punches the cross clear. It falls to Gundogan 25 yards from goal but he is closed down as he shapes to shoot.
  • 14'
WHAT A MISS!! A great chance for Bayern goes begging! Lahm does well on the right to turn his defender and send the ball into the box. Santana gets his head on it but diverts it right across the face of his own goal. Weidenfeller has to dive and get a hand on it to stop it from entering the net, leaving Kroos with what appeared to be a simple tap in. However, he made the most feeble of connections and merely prodded the ball wide of the target. Awful.
  • 11'
It has been a bright start to the game so far, and @anthonyekhoury has been in touch to give his opinion: "Robben to score, Reus to score, and Bayern to win." An interesting call, but what do the rest of you make of it? Let me know by sending your thoughts to @thwebber.
  • 9'
Gotze tries to initiate some intricate passing on the edge of the Bayern box with Piszczek. The German then plays a neat one-two with Lewandowski but the return pass is too far behind him and he cannot bring it under his control.
  • 8'
STRONG SAVE!! Kroos picks up the ball in a central position 35 yards from goal and slides a pass to Robben on his left. The winger takes a touch a drills a low shot towards the near post but Weidenfeller has his angles covered and makes a solid stop with his legs.
  • 6'
Bayern have assumed complete control of the ball in these early stages. A long ball from Schweinsteiger is intercepted by Reus but the forward is accused of using his arm to control the ball and the hosts are awarded a free kick. In no hurry, they play it back and await a clearer opening.
  • 4'
What a ball! Dante pings a lovely pass up to the 18-yard line from his own half and Schweinsteiger manages to get a toe to the ball. It is not enough to bring it under control and his touch actually takes it away from Muller, who was ghosting in behind the defence.
  • 3'
Dante steps out of defence and wins the ball on the half-way line. The Brazilian tries to thread a pass between the defenders to Muller but Subotic stays tight to the German and intercepts.
  • 2'
Bayern win the ball almost immediately and after knocking a few short passes about at the back they look to send it long. After one failed attempt it comes back but they fare no better on their second chance. No worries for Dortmund there.
  • 1'
Dortmund get us under way at the Allianz Arena!
  • The teams are just making their way out onto the pitch now so kick off is just a few short moments away! Send your thoughts and predictions to me on Twitter @thwebber.
  • Dortmund welcome back Robert Lewandowski as the Pole missed their last two games through suspension. However, Klopp cannot count on another mainstay this evening as Mats Hummels misses out with flu. Nevertheless, plenty of talent on show tonight.
  • As you can tell, the hosts are without Franck Ribery for the quarter-final as the Frenchman was dismissed against Augsburg in the previous round. Daniel van Buyten also recovers from flu to begin alongside Dante in the centre of defence.
  • Subs: Langerak, Kuba, Kehl, Sahin, Leitner, Schieber.
  • Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer; Gundogan, Bender; Grosskreutz, Gotze, Reus; Lewandowski.
  • Subs: Starke, Boateng, Luiz Gustavo, Tymoshchuk, Shaqiri, Pizarro, Gomez.
  • Bayern (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Lahm, Van Buyten, Dante, Alaba; Martinez, Schweinsteiger; Muller, Kroos, Robben; Mandzukic.
  • The teams are in so without further delay, here they come...
  • Pride is at stake at the Allianz Arena tonight. Bayern will be looking to avenge the 5-2 humiliation suffered that came in the final of the last year's competition at the hands of BVB. Klopp's men, though, will be eager to keep their cup dreams alive as they find themselves 17 points adrift of their opponents in the Bundesliga.
  • Good evening and welcome to's LIVE text commentary on tonight's DFB-Pokal quarter-final between Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and reigning cup champions Borussia Dortmund. There could not be a more mouth-watering fixture in German football, so lets hope we are in for a real treat. My name is Tom Webber and I will be guiding you through all the action this evening.
