A champion team is judged not only by its ability to win games but also the manner in which they get back on the winning wagon when the chips are down. Dempo SC certainly need some of that spunk right now when take on Pailan Arrows at the Tilak Maidan in Goa. The reigning I-League champions are currently in the middle of a woeful run of form which has seen them not getting a win in their last 5 games. Coach Armando Colaco has attributed this dip in form to injuries and 'controversies' which may have altered the mood around the camp.
However it is imperative that the Golden Eagles notch a win against Pailan Arrows in order to finish the season on a high note. Dempo were lively in the second half against Mohun Bagan at Kolkata where they gave Karim Bencherifa's side some jitters. Colaco would want to channel some of that spirit and drive against the Arrows.
Pailan Arrows will be looking to give outgoing coach Arthur Papas the perfect farewell gift by finishing well. The Australian revealed that he would not be with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) developmental side next season despite doing some fabulous work with regards to their style of play.
The Arrows were involved in a drab draw with a physical Mumbai FC during the last matchweek and coming out of that game unscathed will be a heart-warmer for Papas as they will look to add more salt to Dempo's wounds.
Dempo SC: It is likely that Armando Colaco will use the same lineup as the one that started against Mohun Bagan. Ryuji Sueoka is still out injured along with Mahesh Gawli.
Pailan Arrows: Papas might be tempted to start with Alwyn George but the striker did not come on against Mumbai. The Arrows might just field the same eleven that started against Khalid Jamil's team. Soram Poirei meanwhile is suspended, having picked up his fourth yellow card of the season against Mumbai FC.
