Pune FC eased past Dempo with a scoreline of 2-0, in an I-League encounter at the Balewadi stadium in Pune.

Two goals in the first half, one a pile-driver by Sukhwinder Singh in the 30th minute, and a James Moga strike just before half-time, proved to be enough for the hosts.

Pune FC gave Boima Karpeh a start in-place of Douhou Pierre, who dropped out of the squad itself, being replaced by Sukhwinder Singh in midfield.

Dempo SC meanwhile gave Prathamesh Maulingkar a start alongside Creson Antao in defense, while John Menyongar started behind Koko Sakibo in attack.

The Red Lizards started the brighter of the two teams, with James Moga failing to hit the target after being found by Othallo Tabia.

Nicolau Borges hit a couple of shots from range in reply for Dempo, but it was the hosts who should have gone ahead in the 24th minute, when Gurjinder Singh flashed in a dangerous cross on a counter-attack, and Moga lined up to meet the low cross at the far-post, but completely missed his kick.

The ball still fell nicely for Karma Tsewang, who set-up Izumi Arata for a shot, but the midfielder instead decided to pass the ball sidewards, and the opportunity was gone.

They were however, not made to pay for it, as in the 30th minute, Sukhwinder Singh got the ball in a seemingly harmless position in midfield. The midfielder though, was allowed to progress unchallenged, and he composed himself and unleashed an absolute howitzer of a shot from 35 yards out, which Laxmikant Kattimani was beaten all ends up.

The goal shook the away side into action, but they failed to really test Abhra Mondal, who however almost conceded a calamaitous goal, when he let slip a cross from his grasp and the ball fell to Anthony Pereira. The custodian though, was quick off his line to block the subsequent effort and avert the danger.

In the 44th minute though, Pune FC deservedly doubled their lead, as Sukhwinder released Moga down the wing, and the striker finished with aplomb.

That proved to be the last real chance of the first half, as the referee blew for the interval.

The second half started at a far slower pace than the first, with Pune FC conent with their two goal advantage. Dempo meanwhile continued at a lethargic pace, unable to prise open the home side’s defense.

It was almost past the hour mark when the away side finally got inbehind the Pune FC defense, but Abhra Mondal was quick off his line.

The Red Lizards then fashioned a few chances of their own, with Moga failing to find Paite in a promising position, before Jeje Lalpekhlua, on as a substitute, failed to connect with a cross by Paite.

Arata then had an opportunity, but his piledriver was deflected wide for a corner.

Joy Ferrao, who had just come in for Climax Lawrence, almost got one back for his side, but his headed effort was met with an equally good effort by Abhra Mondal.

Jeje meanwhile tried to get a goal on counter-attacking opportunities, but his touch often deserted him in the final third. Koko Sakibo then had a chance to possibly get a consolation for his side, but he failed to hit the target, when he just had the keeper to beat.

Eventually the game petered out to a tame finish, with Pune FC registering three vital points, which sees them leap-frog Dempo into third on the table with 37 points, two ahead of Dempo, who have also played a game more.
