Prayag United - East Bengal Preview: Can the Red and Gold take advantage of Churchill slipping up?

With East Bengal not having the best of records against Prayag United who beat them the last two times, Trevor Morgan will be eager for a win to remain in the title challenge..

Eelco Schattorie would be happy with how his team has slowly adjusted to his style of play after their early season inconsistencies. Besides picking up important wins against Pune FC and Dempo SC, they have only been defeated by Mumbai FC in their last eight games.

Moreover, winning the IFA Shield against East Bengal earlier this month will have done a great deal of good to the team's morale as they will be raring to have a go to continue their dominance over the Red and Gold. It must be remembered that it was Prayag United who ended their undefeated start to the I-League this season with a 1-0 victory.

With Churchill Brothers having failed to register three points against Salgaocar, Trevor Morgan and his men will be pumped up to get a positive result on Friday which shall see them go level on points with the league leaders, who though will have a game in hand.

This s indeed a golden opportunity for East Bengal to capitalize and the team will also be reinvigorated to take revenge against their bogey team in the league.

With the Goan side being too reliant on Beto who has been ruled out for the next three outings, the going will certainly be tough for Churchill as they have to face Mohun Bagan twice with the latter desperate to avoid the drop.

Morgan, the shrewd tactician he is, will be aware of the above and shall hope that his boys give him the result which further put pressure on Churchill Brothers at the top.

East Bengal: Edeh Chidi has recovered from injury and will be expected to start. Trevor Morgan will have the full squad at his disposal.

Prayag United: Gouramangi Moirangthem, Deepak Mandal, Malswamtulunga and Carlos Hernandez are all expected to start for this big match after only making the bench last time around.

  • Prayag United have scored the second highest number of goals in the league (44), only two behind the toppers Churchill Brothers.
  • East Bengal has conceded the least number of goals (12) in the league. However, none of the top-five teams have scored fewer goals than East Bengal.
  • Both these teams possess the league's fiercest goal poachers. Prayag's Ranti Martins with 22 goals tops the chart, while Edeh Chidi of East Bengal comes second with 15 goals.
