Having lost just once in 11 games, ONGC head into the clash with Churchill in good form, hoping to make the Red Machines their next big scalp in the league.
Built on a very efficient and workman like defense featuring Wahid Sali, Robin Gurung and Hassan Odeola, the Oilmen are very difficult to beat.
Ever since Santosh Kashyap took over, the team largely relies on Katsumi Yusa and Eric Brown for goals upfront. The addition of Muritala Ali means that the club now also has another option on the bench, to bring on, if needed, as seen against Air India, when he came on as a substitute to score a vital goal.
While ONGC are set to be thrown out of the I-League at the end of this season, alongwith Air India, they shall look to go on a high, hoping to leave behind as many good memories as they can.
ONGC shall rely on team-work for a win...
Churchill on the other hand, have their eyes on the I-League title, with them presently leading East Bengal by two points and with a game in hand.
While the Lebanese duo, namely Bilal Najjarine and Akram Moghrabi, who inspired their early season form, have now left, but against Air India, Henry Antchouet and Beto showed that their foreign contingent shall continue to drive them forward.
Balal Arezou made his debut from the bench in the last game, and may be looking for more minutes in the coming game. The Afghani striker will have to hit the ground running, as his goals could prove vital in the I-League title race.
The Red Machines now have an AFC Cup commitment to keep as well, and it remains to be seen how their squad copes with these extra number of games, considering that they are not really blessed with a great depth in numbers.
They shall though, still be favourites for both, the game and in the title race, and anything less than a win might leave the Goans disappointed, even though ONGC have been in great form.
Churchill Brothers – Defender Saran Singh has recovered from his calf injury. Balal Arezou is likely to feature off the bench again, thanks to Henry Antchouet’s recent good run. Sunil Chhetri is expected to start alongside the Gabonese striker.
ONGC – Muritala Ali is expected to continue on the bench. Sandeep Sangha, Hassan and Gurung are expected to form a 3 man central defense, with Brown supported by Kailash Patil and Katsumi Yusa upfront.
