Sporting Clube de Goa came out victorious against Salgaocar FC by beating their Goan rivals 2-0 in a round 18 I-League match played at the Duler stadium, on Monday.

Oscar Barreras handed their Spaniard recruit Angel Berlanga with his debut while Samananda Singh and Rowllin Borges made their way into the starting line-up who were made to miss the services of Rovan Pereira and Jovel Martins due to suspensions.

David Booth meanwhile continued with his full strength team that beat Mohun Bagan last week, with Brazilian defender Luciano Sobrosa starting on the bench.

The Green and White's midfielder John Wilkinson could have handed his side an early lead when the Singaporean's shot was blocked by Sporting keeper Bruno Colaco in the 2nd minute, who also saved the follow up shot by Josimar da Silva Martins.

Rocus Lamare crafted an easy pass to Gabriel Obatola inside the Sporting penalty area, but the Nigerian striker took way long to control the ball to his favourite right foot before haphazardly shooting wide in the 13th minute.

In a 17th minute attempt on the other side, Rowllin Borges' spectacular volley from an Ogba Kalu Nnanna cross flew inches wide of the Karanjit Singh's left post, while two minutes later Pratesh Shirodkar's pass to Victorino Fernandes saw the Salgaocar keeper put his his body in the line of the shot.

Sporting survived a few corners from their Goan rivals in the following minutes until Gilberto Oliveira fired a shot wide in the 24th minute.

Both teams had each other measured well by the half hour mark as play was confined to the midfield and neither side were able to drill into their opponent's defensive line.

Salgaocar were a bit more offensive however while Josimar failed to capitalise on Francis Fernandes' goal-mouth cross in the 37th minute. Two minutes later it was Sporting's Kalu who shot wide despite having ample time to measure his shot.

Sporting's on-loan keeper from Margao SC Bruno Colaco sprung into action blocking back-to-back shots by Josimar before doing well to save a powerful shot by Obatola in the 41st minute.

In the first minute of the second half, the Flaming Oranje had a golden opportunity to drive in the lead after Shirodkar and substitute Stephene Barreto did well to set-up Victorino, whose shot was blocked at the spur of the moment by Salgaocar defender Collin Abranches.

Victorino went on to earn a mention in the books of Kerala based referee Sunil NC for simulation in Salgaocar's penalty area.

Booth's side were then reduced to 10 men after Rahul Kumar was given his marching orders for a dangerous two-footed challenge on Sporting's Shirodkar by the hour mark.

This followed with Barreras' side taking the lead through a direct free-kick scored by Ogba Kalu Nnanna, who was brought down by Salgaocar defender Augustin Fernandes, that beat Karanjit Singh at his left in the 60th minute.

Seven minutes later, and Sporting were 2-0 up, as Angel Berlanga's attempt to cross the ball in the attacking third caught a deflection from Luciano Sobrosa on the way in. A goal none-the-less.

Few minutes later, Sporting keeper Colaco did well to tip out a dipping free-kick taken by John Wilkinson as Sporting held on to their double advantage until the final whistle.

Sporting had another chance to score their third of the evening when Victorino got too close to Salgaocar keeper Karanjit Singh after which eight added minutes were awarded.

Sporting Clube de Goa who are now with 17 points from 17 matches, could have scored a couple of more goals given a few half chances in the earlier minutes that fell to Shirodkar and Barreto, while Salgaocar FC remain with 14 points from 17 matches.
