Prayag United SC came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Sporting Clube de Goa in a round 16 I-League clash played at the Duler stadium in Goa, on Saturday.
Ranti Martins (48') and Bello Rasaq (77') scored the goals for the visitors after Oscar Barreras' men were put in front by Ogba Kalu Nnanna (22').
Keita Boubacar's return boosted the back-line, while Rovan Pereira and Mackroy Peixoto made their way back into the Flaming Oranje starting line-up with Joseph Pereira starting on the bench.
The one change from the win against Pune FC for Eelco Schattorie's side was that of midfielder Lester Fernandez starting ahead of C.K.Vineeth.
Sporting had a decent chance in the fifth minute when Adil Khan powered his way to square a pass for Seiya Sugishita, whose shot was blocked by Lalkamal Bhowmick. The rebound came Khan's way, but Prayag United defender Bello Rasaq cleared in time.
Four minutes later, Lester Fernandez found Shankar Oraon who was close to the Sporting box, but the striker got too close to rival keeper Ashok Singh as the two clashed allowing Ogba Kalu to clear away the danger.
Sporting were not able to do much with the corners and throw-ins that came their way. The goal in the 22nd minute, came from Pratesh Shirodkar's free-kick that took a deflection off Lalkamal Bhomick for Kalu to blast home the loose ball.
Six minutes later, Oraon slipped the ball towards Carlos Hernandez, but the former Costa Rican international's right-footer was tipped above the horizontal by Sporting keeper Ashok Singh.
Meanwhile, a mispass by Lester Fernandez was picked by Adil Khan, who released Sugishita upfront, but the ball was eventually lost out in the Prayag United defense as Kottayil Asif effected the clearance. Prayag United substitute Shylo Malswamtulunga forced a save from Ashok Singh before the end of the first half.
It was however hard to say what was going on in Keita Boubacar's mind as the Sporting defender waited for his goalkeeper to collect the ball instead of clearing it while Ranti Martins made the most of the defensive lapse as the Nigerian sneaked in and slotted the ball past Ashok Singh, just three minutes into the second half.
There was some good defending by Rasaq to dispossess Sugishita inside the Prayag United box after the Japanese was played in by Kalu in the 64th minute.
Sporting could have regained the lead in the 75th minute, but Victorino Fernandes shot wide after being set-up by Kalu, while Prayag surged ahead from a goal scored by Bello Rasaq from a free-kick in the 77th minute after Adil Khan was guilty of bringing down Ranti Martins just outside the Sporting area.
In what could have been a late equaliser for Barreras' side, Joyner Lourenco's cross was just about missed by Victorino right in front of Prayag United keeper Sangram Mukherjee who held his nerve to make a comfortable catch in the 87th minute.
Hence with this win, Prayag United have collected 23 points from 15 matches, while Sporting Clube de Goa have 14 points from as many fixtures.
