The ONGC FC hierarchy can give themselves a pat on their backs for roping in former Mohun Bagan coach Santosh Kashyap. The 46-year old has led the Oilmen to two wins and a draw in his three games in charge. ONGC have risen from the depths of the league table to sit at a healthy 8th position only a point behind Pailan Arrows whom they so efficiently disposed of last weekend.
They will now face a stern test as Federation Cup champions East Bengal arrive at Delhi to attempt to end Kashyap's fairytale start at his new club.
East Bengal on the other hand have started to find their feet again after a blip in form that saw them relinquish their position at the top of the I-League table and also had their unbeaten run ended.
Trevor Morgan's side lost two consecutive games against Prayag United and Mumbai FC. However resounding victories over Pailan Arrows and Salgaocar FC have seen the Red and Gold leapfrog Dempo SC into third place and only a point behind leaders Churchill Brothers.
Morgan's team cannot rest on their laurels as yet as they will make a tricky trip to an extremely cold Delhi to face ONGC FC who have put together a good run of form under Santosh Kashyap. The Federation Cup champions will have to be on their guard as ONGC may be below them in the league table but are not one to go down without a fight.
ONGC FC : Santosh Kashyap will be without midfielder Eric Brown who was sent off in the game against Pailan Arrows. Bimal Minz and Robin Gurung are out injured. It is likely that Sachin Gawas will slot into the centre of the defence with Joel Sequiera playing as the left full back. Keniston will return to the fold and is available for selection. The rest of the team is likely to remain the same as Kashyap hopes to put a spanner in East Bengal's title hopes.
East Bengal: Trevor Morgan will be without Sanju Pradhan and Harmanjot Khabra. Lalrindika Ralte and Robin Singh are expected to retain their places in the team after a good showing against Salgaocar in Round 13 of the I-League.
