Churchill Brothers SC overpowered Sporting Clube de Goa and in style with a 8-4 win in a round 11 match of the I-League, played at the Fatorda stadium in Goa.

Churchill Brothers started with Henry Antchouet and Bineesh Balan in the attack with Akram Moghrabi starting on the bench, while Seiya Sugishita and Dawson Fernandes were the two strikers for Sporting Clube de Goa.

The Red Machine got on to a positive start to the game when Sporting keeper Agnelo Gomes sent in a pass to Keita Boubacar who was walking away from him. Bineesh Balan pounced on the loose ball and clipped it over Gomes to score the opener in the ninth minute.

The Flaming Oranje immediately started going on the offensive but Churchill’s back-line were equal to the task of averting the crosses coming in from all directions, with defenders Denzil Franco and Ravanan Dharmaraj being kept on their toes.

Seiya Sugshita and Pratesh Shirodkar missed their chances before Oscar Barreras' men got the equaliser. In the 20th minute, it was Shirodkar’s pass to Ogba Kalu Nnanna that the Nigerian blasted at the back of the net from about 30 yards out.

Then in the 34th minute, Sugishita’s hard work on the right paid dividends as Joseph Pereira got a diving touch to the ball to beat Churchill keeper Sandip Nandy in his area to go in the lead.

Right off the counter, Roberto Silva’s shot was blocked by a diving Agnelo Gomes, although the Mariano Dias-led side didn’t take their foot off the gas as Henry Antchouet squared for Balan who tapped home his second in the 38th minute.

Balan went on to complete his hat-trick two minutes later when the Churchill striker saw the Sporting keeper off his line and sent in a curling shot from outside the box which Gomes could only pick out from his net.

The injury time of the first half witnessed another howler by the young Sporting keeper as Gomes wasn’t able to hold on to a Beto free-kick as Antchouet made it 4-2 off the rebound.

After the break, Churchill were yet hungry for goals as the second half resumed as they continued with their attacking forays at every opportunity. Beto and Antchouet came close to increasing the margin and indeed they did.

An overhead lob by Balan released Antchouet on the right while the Gabon international controlled the ball against the challenge of at least two rival defenders before finding the back of the net in the 59th minute.

Tomba Singh’s long delivery to Antchouet saw the latter over-run the pass but smartly back-healed the ball across the face of the Sporting goal-mouth for Beto to finish in the 69th minute.

Beto got his name on the scorecard for the second time as the Brazilian finished amidst a goal-mouth melee that was set-up by Churchill substitute Akram Moghrabi who came in place of Antchouet in the 70th minute.

Ten minutes later, Moghrabi made it 8-2 although it didn’t end there as Joseph Pereira and Seiya Sugishita forced the full time score to read 8-4 with their late goals.

Churchill Brothers now find themselves level on points with league leaders Dempo SC, but second on head-to-head, while Sporting Clube de Goa are 11th in the standings with eight points.
