Air India's victory over Sporting Clube de Goa in Round 9 of the I-League gave the Airmen something to cheer about as they climbed out of the relegation zone into the tenth place. Baldip Singh's 36th minute strike was the side's 10th goal of the season.
They now will look to a performance of a similar mould when Mumbai FC come calling. Air India spent most of their time on the back-foot against Sporting, a fact that would worry interim coach Anthony Fernandes who is well aware of how Khalid Jamil's men physically bully their opponents into submission. The win against Sporting was put down to the Goans' profligacy in front of goal than the Airmen's good play.
Khalid Jamil on the other hand will have every reason to smile. The Mumbai FC gaffer has seen his side pick up 13 points out of a possible 15 and currently sit in seventh place, a point ahead of Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan.
Mumbai's win away to Prayag United was an indicator of how tenacity and hard work pays off as Jamil's side shocked the Kolkatans with Yusif Yukubu's late winner into thestoppage time at the Salt Lake Stadium.
Air India – The Airmen might just field the same team that got the three points against Sporting Goa with no suspension worries. Prakash Thorat is yet to recover from an injury.
Mumbai FC – Subhash Chakrabarty remains a doubtful starter as he sustained a hamstring injury in the last game. Darren Caldeira is likely to replace the winger.
