Prayag United look to get back to winning ways, as they gear up to host Churchill Brothers in a clash between the third and fourth ranked sides of the league.
The Kolkatan outfit have been red hot in-front of goal this season, having notched 23 this campaign, well ahead of the rest.
However a struggling Salgaocar held them to a draw last time round, and going into their encounter with the Red Machines, they find themselves 6 points behind leaders East Bengal.
As always, the onus shall be on Ranti Martins upfront to get the goals, while one hopes Eelco Schattorie and Carlos Hernandez have bridged the difference in opinion that cropped up between the duo during the Salgaocar game.
The Costa Rican has been key to Ranti Martins and Prayag’s form infront of goal, and will need to be at his best against Churchill, who have the joint second best defensive record in the competition. However it is believed that Mohamed Rafique is likely to get the nod ahead of Hernandez.
Can Najjarine keep Ranti Martins at bay?...
Bilal Najjarine has been a rock at the back for the Goans this season, showing great positional skills and poise on the ball.
Infact the Red Machines have one of the most finest set of foreigners in the league, as Brazilian Beto and Najjarin’s countryman Akram Moghrabi, have been driving the team forward this season, after they lost a few of their top Indian stars like Gouramangi Moirangthem, Arindam Bhattacharya and Lalrindika Ralte over the summer.
Beto has been instrumental in midfield all season and has also provided a threat in the box while Moghrabi popped up with a magnificent winner to leave Shillong Lajong’s faithful speechless.
Mariano Dias will be hoping that his Brazilian playmaker, Beto can return to the side for this vital clash, as the fluency he provides in midfield was missed against Lajong, as the Red Machines struggled to open up a stubborn home defense.
Prayag United: Coach Eelco Schattorie has a host of injuries to contend with. Chandrashekhar Chinta, James Singh and Ravinder Singh are ruled out for the tie due to injuries. Carlos Hernandez looks doubtful thanks to a fever while Shylo Tulunga and Deepak Mandal missed the last training session due to niggles and are likely to miss out. Kayne Vincent is to get his ankle treated in Osaka, Japan and shall return to action only in another two weeks time.
Churchill Brothers – Remains to be seen if Beto is available for selection from the off after having missed out against Shillong Lajong due to an injury. That is the only big injury scare that Mariano Dias has to contend with, while Steven Dias is also expected to be put through a late fitness test, in order to make the final squad.
