PREVIEW
This will surely be an intensely contested encounter not because of history between the two clubs, but because the Mariners have only recently poached Karim Bencherifa from Salgaocar to be their new coach. The Goans hit back by not allowing the Moroccan to join the Kolkata outfit till November 18. Meanwhile they have roped in former Mumbai FC caoch, David Booth to take over the reins.
While David Booth will be in charge of Salgaocar when they travel to Kolkata, Mridul Banerjee will still be in charge of the Mariners. Having drawn 1 and won 1 of his two matches in charge, he will look to end his temporary managerial stint with a win.
If Salgaocar want to win, they have to stop Odafa
Although the Greens went down in the Goan derby last time around to Churchill Brothers, David Booth was content with the performance of his boys but agreed that they need to be more organized defensively. However their more pressing concern is in the attacking front, where both high profile foreign strikers, Angel Guirado and Sean Rooney are not being able to finish off chances in front of goal.
On the other end, Luciano Sobrosa, the Greens skipper will have to be on full alert to stop dangerman Odafa if they want to prevent the Kolkata giants, to run away with the match.
Salgaocar have got to be more clinical in front of goal
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan are, like last season, over-reliant on their Nigerian dynamo, Odafa Okolie as proven in their last two outings. With Odafa on song, the whole team was energized and they put a top class performance to ease past Sporting Clube de Goa. The opposite happened in their last game, as they were held by lowly ONGC, when the Nigerian and Mr. Consistency, Syed Rahim Nabi were marked out of the game and Bagan were lucky to escape with a draw.
However, home advantage will certainly, play its part as Odafa often looks twice as dangerous when playing at the Salt Lake Stadium. Stanley Okoroigwe will look to play just behind the Nigerian in the hole to provide him with necessary ammunition while Denson Devadasa will be expected to mop up opposition attacks.
TEAM NEWS
Mohun Bagan: Long time injury concerns Tolgay Ozbey and Arindam Bhattacharya will be out of the squad. Shilton Paul will be starting in goal while Odafa will be the lone striker up front as Bagan will go in a 4-1-4-1 formation in the absence of Tolgay.
Salgaocar FC: Having no injuries, an unchanged eleven is expected from the one that lost to Churchill Brothers. Sean Rooney is likely to start upfront with Francis Fernandes and Anthony D'Souza for support down the wings.
