ONGC were expected to be the surprise package this season affter their top performance at the Federation Cup where they almost made it into the knockout stages. However their campaign did start on an encouraging note when they lost to Pune FC 3-2 in Pune where they gave a decent account of themselves.
However it was the game against Churchill Brothers where their inexperience was exposed with the likes of Akram Moghrabi and Beto leading the line and scoring five goals in the first half itself.
|Can Yusa continue his top form against Air India?
What must certainly be noted is the way they managed to comeback and put in a strong performance against Prayag United after the thrashing at the hands of Churchill Brothers. Coach Subrata Bhattacharya deserves credit for motivating his side and keeping their confidence levels high as they weren't overawed when facing the most expensive side in the league.
They must certainly look to garner three points from their fixture against Air India and anything less than that would be a disappointment for them.
Air India have been woeful to say the least in the league so far. They started with a disappointing defeat to Prayag United where they lost 5-1 despite a man's advantage for more than an hour. They failed against Pailan Arrows and lost to Mohun Bagan 1-0 in the last matchday.
They need up their levels against the Green and Maroon side but Mridul Bannerjee's side are themselves undergoing a poor run of form and it wasn't surprising to see Air India dominate the game.
They are very much in need to three points as are ONGC and it will be interesting to see who comes out winner in this tie.
ONGC FC: Eric Brown and Bijoy Gurung will not be in action due to injury worries.
Air India: They have a full strength squad at the dispoal of coach Godfrey Pereira.
