Pune FC - Mumbai FC Preview: Will the Red Lizards win the Maharashtra derby?
Pune will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run at home in the 'Maha derby' against Mumbai FC
By John Vaz
The first Maharashtra derby of the season will take place at the Balewadi Sports Complex Stadium. The home side, Pune, finally managed to break their opening day jinx when they beat ONGC 3-2 at home, ending a run of three consecutive draws in the first game of the season. They'll be looking to continue in the same vein against a Mumbai FC were on the wrong side of a similar scoreline against Pailan Arrows.
Although they won, Pune looked like they would draw the game as they conceded two goals in five minutes to ONGC. Such defensive lapses could prove to be their undoing against a stronger opposition. Although the fact that they have never lost to Mumbai at home, should be a positive for them.
Having conceded 11 goals in 4 competitive fixtures so far, Mumbai also have problems at the back. Their keeper Sanjiban Ghosh had a hand in two of the three goals that they conceded in the last match. Inspite of being ahead, Mumbai couldn't hold on to their lead. Against a team containing strikers of the quality of Jeje Lalpekhlua and Subhash Singh, Mumbai will have their work cut out.

Pune FC: With Mumtaz Akhtar picking up a double booking, this could be an opportunity for on-loan midfielder Khanthang Paite to feature in the match. Abhra Mondal, N Mohanraj, Sukhwinder Singh and Nikhil Kadam are still recovering from injuries. James Moga remains a doubt for this game due to malaria.
Mumbai FC: Ghanian defender Evans Quao is expected to lead the team. They'll feature the likes of Nicholas Rodrigues and Subhash Chakraborty on the flanks with James Singh in the middle of the park.
