    Aldo Junior Simoncini

Made a fine start by keeping out Lampard from close range but he could do nothing about Della Valle's own goal moments later. That opened the floodgates and the hapless keeper could do very little as Roy Hodgson's men took turns to score.

    Alessandro Della Valle

Gave away the early advantage with a comical own goal when he inexplicably sliced Baines' cross into his own net and struggled with the pace of England's attack throughout.

The defender had no answer to Walker's pace and Oxlade-Chamberlain's trickery, but he did well to cut out a couple of early runs from England's midfield.

Ashley Young and Leighton Baines ran riot down his flank from the word go, causing the right-back to leave his centre-halves horribly exposed.

Michele Cervellini Flop of the Match

The attacking midfielder spent most of the match running towards his own goal and gave the ball away cheaply in the second half on the few occasions San Marino managed to win it.

    Mirko Palazzi

Read the game slightly better than his defensive partner but it wasn't enough to stop England's torrent of goals.

    Alex Gasperoni

Started out on the left-wing but tucked in more often than not to stop England penetrating through the midfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain, in particular, caused him alot of trouble.

    Enrico Cibelli

Was tasked with keeping an eye on Baines' forward runs but couldn't keep up with the Everton defender's movement and surges from deep.

    Fabio Bollini

The midfielder made a good early block to keep England out in opening minutes but his effectiveness pretty much ended there. He did, however, have San Marino's one-and-only effort on goal, a tame shot from range after a mistake by Joe Hart.

  • Andy Selva

    Andy Selva

Had the unenviable task of playing as San Marino's lone striker. He showed a couple of good touches when the ball was played long to him but he never had the ability to hold the play up for the hosts.

  • Matteo Vitaioli

    Matteo Vitaioli

Played as the furthest forward midfielder for the hosts but still rarely stepped over the halfway line. Most of his work was done chasing the short passes between Lampard and Cleverley.

Came on as a late substitute to add energy to a very tired San Marino side.

    Joe Hart

The Manchester City goalkeeper was a spectator throughout the entirety of the match. Made a sloppy pass in the second half which lead to San Marino's only effort of the match.

Had a very comfortable night with the San Marino forwards never giving him anything to worry about. Passed the ball well out from defence.

    Joleon Lescott

Didn't have much to worry about throughout the night but was caught unaware by Hart's short pass which led to a San Marino effort. Despite that, the Man City defender had a very comfortable evening.

  • Kyle Walker

    Kyle Walker

The Spurs full-back is happiest when he has a chance to get in behind the opposition, but with San Marino's ultra defensive approach, Walker found it more difficult to find gaps in the backline. He nevertheless caused the opposition plenty of problems when combining with Oxlade-Chamberlain and did well to create England's eighth goal.

  • Leighton Baines

    Leighton Baines

Forced England's opening goal with a well-timed and pacey run up the left-flank. He continued in the same fashion throughout the night and produced quality with his end product more often than not. Linked up with Ashley Young impressively down the left flank.

  • Ashley Young

Ashley Young Top of the Match

Dovetailed well with Baines down England's left flank but his reluctance to shoot or cross with his left foot made his attacking play predictable at times. There was nothing predictable about his goal, though, which flew into the top corner from long range. His passing and movement when drifting in-field was excellent.

  • Frank Lampard

    Frank Lampard

Steered a low show past Simoncini just before half-time after being kept out a few times by the San Marino shot-stopper.

  • Tom Cleverley

    Tom Cleverley

Gave a disciplined performance in central midfield, keeping his passing short, simple and accurate, allowing England to create a tempo in their attack. Came off early in the second half.

  • Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Came close to opening the scoring early on but his half-volley, after two fine touches, came off the crossbar. Scored England's second after a fine exchange with Rooney, taking his finish well. Continued to torment the hosts, heading an assist for Defoe's first goal.

  • Jermain Defoe

    Jermain Defoe

San Marino's deep defence meant the Tottenham striker was often crowded out when near the penalty area but found space after 30 minutes only to see his close range effort ruled out for offside. Got his first goal moments later from close range and added another clever effort late on.

  • Wayne Rooney

    Wayne Rooney

The Manchester United forward often came deep to orchestrate England's attacks and did so effectively when he assisted Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal in the first half. Shaped a free kick beyond Simoncini wonderfully for England's sixth.

Came on early in the second half for Wayne Rooney and struck the woodwork with a close range header. The Liverpool striker did find the net later with another easier header into an open net.
