    Jan Vertonghen

Was allowed the freedom to maurade up field due to Scotland's lack of attacking threat, and made the most of it. Always lurking on the flank for another outlet for the Belgium attackers.

    Toby Alderweireld

Enjoyed his ventures forward, most notably sending a deep hanging cross towards Benteke that the striker could only direct onto McGregor's bar.

    Vincent Kompany

As it has come to be expected from the peerless centre-back, was calm and composed in possession. Scored an absolute beauty to extend his side's lead with a rocket from the edge of the area. A tremendous finish.

  • Axel Witsel

    2.00

    Axel Witsel

Was one of the very few unimpressive Belgium players. His current domestic form spilling onto the international stage as he struggled to assert himself despite his team's dominance.

  • Kevin De Bruyne

    3.00

    Kevin De Bruyne

Time and time again found space down the right flank. Was occasionally troubled by a dogged Scotland defence but will be happy with his night's showing.

  • Mousa Dembélé

    Mousa Dembélé

Failed to make a similar impact as he does usually for the national side. Played a more advanced role to the freedom's Scotland's meekness in attack afforded him before being withdraw at half-time for Hazard.

    Nacer Chadli

As with Mertens, was a continual thorn in Scotland's side. Accompanied by the adventurous Vertonghen, kept Alan Hutton on the back foot throughout.

    C. Benteke Top of the Match

Should have scored at least twice before the hour mark, first missing a sitter in the first half before hitting the bar with a header from six yards in the opening stages of the second. Eventually got his goal with a simple header at the back post.

  • Dries Mertens

    Dries Mertens

Was thwarted by a superb McGregor save inside the opening three minutes. A constant threat but seemed to run out of ideas in the second half before being withdrawn just before the hour mark.

    Eden Hazard

Gave Belgium the lift needed to break the deadlock with his quick-thinking and movement. Played a part in the first goal by dragging defenders away from Benteke.

  • Allan McGregor

    3.00

    Allan McGregor

Was the man of the first half as he kept a pumped-up Belgium at bay time and time again. Unlucky to be beaten in the end but hardly a surprise due to Belgium's dominance.

  • Alan Hutton

    Alan Hutton

Was continually on the back foot against Chadli and Vertonghen. Struggled to make an sort of impact because of this.

    Christophe Berra

Did well against a barrage of Belgium attacks, but looked shaky with the ball on the ground, leading to a number of goal-mouth scrambles in the first half.

    James Morrison

As with the other attack-minded players, was often isolated. However, whenever he did get an opportunity to get behind the Belgium defence in the second half, regularly chose the wrong option. Was withdrawn with 10 minutes to go.

    Steven Fletcher

Did well holding up the ball when given the rare chance, especially as he was dealing with scraps. Will have easier games in the future, but this wasn't one of them.

    Shaun Maloney

Went incredibly close in the first half with a glorious free kick, only for Courtois to clasp the ball out of the top right-hand corner in the nick of time to prevent an unlikely lead. Otherwise was kept busy with defending duties.
