Player Ratings: AC Milan 1-1 Malaga

Goal.com rates the players on show as although an Alexandre Pato cancels out Eliseu's strike, a point is enough for Manuel Pellegrini's men to book a place in the next round

    Christian Abbiati

The Milan keeper had relatively little to do on the night as Malaga amassed just three shots on target. There was very little he could do to keep out Eliseu's well struck goal, but did not get flustered thereafter.

  • Philippe Mexes
    51

    Philippe Mexes

The Frenchman was impressive at the back as he kept Saviola quiet for much of the evening. He did not allow the Argentine a metre of space and mopped up everything at the back adeptly.

  • Ignazio Abate
    20
    18

    Ignazio Abate

Made one bright early run but was forced to leave the field after just six minutes due to injury.

  • Kevin Constant

    Kevin Constant

The full-back never looked rushed on the ball but failed to pick up Eliseu as the Portuguese netted the game's first goal. He did atone for his error with a brilliant, deep cross that was headed in by Pato.

  • Daniele Bonera

    Daniele Bonera

Put in a decent display next to Mexes as Malaga did not threaten too much on the night. Physically, he was in control and made a number of good challenges to disrupt the flow of the visitors' attacks.

  • Riccardo Montolivo
    42

    Riccardo Montolivo

Could not influence the forward play as much as he would have liked from a deep-lying position. Nevertheless he hunted the ball down well and refused to give up when his team were out of possession.

  • Urby Emanuelson
    25
    23
    2.50

    Urby Emanuelson

Was only denied a goal by a magnificent stop from Caballero just before the half-hour mark. He displayed great stamina as he pushed forward to join the attack but wasted far too many shots on goal.

  • Nigel De Jong
    29
    13
    2.50

    Nigel De Jong

He put in some robust challenges but was beaten by Isco far too easily in the build-up to the opening goal. It put an end to what had been a bright start and from then on he struggled to contain the Spaniard.

  • Alexandre Pato
    69
    4
    3.50

    Alexandre Pato

Attempted to use his pace to beat defenders and won a number of free-kicks for his side. He grew frustrated as the game wore on but stayed alert and managed to bag himself a goal in the 73rd minute.

  • Bojan Krkic
    70

Bojan Krkic Top of the Match

Showed one brilliant glimpse of his skill as he wriggled away from a group of defenders and pulled a great save from Caballero. His link-up play was good, and the one shame was that he didn't see enough of the ball.

  • Stephan El Shaarawy
    42
    10
    2.50

    Stephan El Shaarawy

Playing wide on the left, El Shaarawy displayed a good work ethic as he regularly tracked back to aid the defence. However, it is not where Milan would have wanted his influence to be seen.

    Mattia De Sciglio

Would not have expected to enter the action so early but refused to be daunted by the prospect. After being beaten by Eliseu a couple of times he wised up to the Portuguese's style and limited his impact.

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng

    Kevin-Prince Boateng

Replaced El Sharaawy in the 62nd minute and looked far more dangerous in the final third. He came close to bagging a winner but Caballero managed to keep hold of his volley.

  • Robinho
    24
    17

    Robinho

Came on for Emanuelson in the 80th minute but was unable to make an impression on the game.

  • Willy Caballero

    Willy Caballero

With the Argentine in goal it is easy to understand how Malaga have been so difficult to beat this season. A fantastic save from Bojan early on was bettered by a magnificent stop to keep Emanuelson's free-kick out.

  • Jesús Gámez
    8
    3
    3.00

    Jesús Gámez

It was an impressive night for the 27-year-old as he kept the threat coming down Malaga's right to a minimum. He put in a series of well-timed challenges and even managed to push forward to help his team counter.

  • Weligton
    10
    3
    3.00

    Weligton

The Brazilian used all his experience to make sure his side remain unbeaten in the tournament so far. He looked confident as he marshaled the back competently, watching the line to keep things tight.

  • Martín Demichelis
    10
    3
    3.00

    Martín Demichelis

Put in a solid performance as he and Weligton orchestrated the defence to great effect. His lack of pace was exposed a couple of times and he resorted to some poor challenges to avoid letting players through on goal.

  • Eliseu
    15
    3
    3.50

    Eliseu

Was a threat right from the off as he took on defenders with his immense pace as soon as he got on the ball. Found space on the opposite flank to slot home from Isco's through-ball to score the opening goal.

  • Sergio Sánchez
    6
    3
    2.50

    Sergio Sánchez

Sloppy on the ball in dangerous areas and allowed the Milan forwards to get the better of him on a couple of occasions.

  • Camacho
    9
    3
    3.00

    Camacho

Screened the defence well and contested almost every 50/50 in the middle of the park. He ensured that the ball did not linger in potentially dangerous areas and was more than willing to put his body on the line.

  • Joaquín
    14
    4
    2.50

    Joaquín

Looked dangerous in the early stages, one moment hugging the line and the next drifting across the centre of the park. However, he failed to create anything and his lack of commitment in defence enabled Constant to supply Pato for the equaliser.

  • Manuel Iturra
    11
    7
    3.00

    Manuel Iturra

Rarely gave the ball away in midfield as he always seemed to distribute possession to a man in space. He was guilty of letting players run free at times but on the whole put in a decent performance.

  • Isco
    22
    4
    3.50

    Isco

Once more displayed his immense potential as he looked for space between the defence and midfield. Was tracked by De Jong but remained determined and beat the Dutchman before setting up Eliseu's strike.

  • Javier Saviola
    9
    5
    2.00

Javier Saviola Flop of the Match

The Argentine had an extremely difficult night as he failed to get involved in the play. His movement was not quite up to its best and he was completely dominated physically by Mexes and Bonera.

Substitutions

  • Jérémy Toulalan
    7
    5
    3.00

    Jérémy Toulalan

Returned from a six-week lay-off as he replaced Iturra with 15 minutes remaining. He kept things calm in midfield and helped keep Milan at bay for the remainder.

  • Sebastián Fernández Miglierina
    6
    4

    Sebastián Fernández Miglierina

Came on for Joaquin in the final 10 minutes but was unable to make an impact on the game.

  • Roque Santa Cruz
    8
    3
    3.00

    Roque Santa Cruz

Gave Malaga a great physical presence in attack after coming on for Saviola in the 68th minute. But with his side on the back foot he did not receive enough service to test the defenders.
