Air India entered the competition on a high after winning the Durand Cup however things have not gone as planned and they now face a must win game against Churchill Brothers who are favourites to progress to the semi-finals. After their shock defeat against Mohammedan Sporting, the Airmen have it all to do in their final group game and must rely on Mohun Bagan getting a result against Sporting as well in order for them to progress.
|Air India showed incredible resolve to emerge victorious against Mohun Bagan with only ten men
However, manager Godfrey Pereira will take a lot of positives from their game agaisnt Mohun Bagan. Air India were reduced to ten men in the 11th minute when John Dias was sent off. Inspite of the handicap, they managed to score two goals without reply to earn all three points. Pereira will be hoping for a similar display of character and resolve for his side in their next encounter.
On the other hand, Churchill Brothers are in fantastic form following an emphatic 5-1 thumping of Mohammedan Sporting in their last game. With their strike force being in good nick, the Goan outfit will be going into their final group game full of confidence. A win would secure a spot in the semi-finals for Subhash Bhowmick's while a draw will leave them hoping Mohammedan Sporting either draw or lose against Mohun Bagan.
