Arindam Bhattacharya's inspired performance in between the stick keeps the Goan giants at bay, with Churchill having one goal controversially disallowed...

In an entertaining encounter largely dominated by Churchill's attacking play, Arindam Bhattacharya, the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper stood firm between them and the goal, pulling off three spectacular saves to keep the Mariners in the match.

Churchill put in a sterling attacking display for the best part of the opening 25 minutes of the half. Most of their chances involved their Nigerian striker, Henry Antchouet, whose opportunism enabled him to breach the Bagan defence not once but thrice. The frontman had two attempts, in the 10th and 26th minute respectively, which were brilliantly blocked by Bhattacharya. While in the 18th minute he failed to properly time his shot on goal.

But Mohun Bagan began to get back into the game with mega-money signing Odafa Okolie central to their revival. The former Churchill Brothers talisman played a big part in two quick attacks in the space of three minutes. He began their turnaround with a solo effort on goal in the 27th minute which blazed over. Later on he released Jewel Raja with a delicious flick in the 30th minute, but the midfielder was left to rue his luck as his stinging right-footer came back off the post. Both the sides continued to fashion chances in the half but it still ended goalless after Tomba Singh and later Tolgay Ozbey failed to finish for their respective clubs.

The second half was again dominated by Churchill, but it went without much incident, until about ten minutes from time. In the 79th minute, the Goans were awarded a free kick for which Tomba Singh stepped up.

Churchill then looked to have finally got the better off Bhattacharya until referee Santosh Kumar pulled up Churchill midfielder Beto for an infringement, which resulted in the goal being disallowed.

Mohun Bagan may have held on for a draw, but they will be concerned with Tolgay Ozbey pulling up during the match.
