The right-back has been one of the standout players on the pitch and has caused the Gomel defence all kinds of problems whenever he has crossed the half-way line.
3-0!!! Fantastic strike from Johnson! The former Chelsea man waits for the ball to bounce before unleashing a thumping effort from outside the box past a helpless Bushma. His play has deserved that!
Suarez bends an effort at goal which Bushma gathers at the second opportunity on the edge of the six yard box.
Johnson and Downing are continuing to link up well down the right. This time the latter hits a cross which is comfortably cut out.
The game’s gone a little bit quiet at the moment with both sets of players losing possession of the ball cheaply. Can Liverpool add to their lead before the game finishes?

Suarez hit’s a decent free-kick which goes narrowly over Bushma’s crossbar. The crowd were calling for Daniel Agger to take it but the Uruguayan took on the set piece.
Half hour to go and Liverpool are comfortably heading through to the next round of the Europa League. If they can play like this throughout the competition then they’ll have to be one of the favourites to win the trophy.

Some of the interchanging between Gerrard, Borini and Suarez has been fantastic to watch. All that’s really missing is a goal for Suarez who has been superb.
Fantastic save by Bushma who gets down low to get a strong hand on a driving Suarez effort after yet another mazy run from the former Ajax forward.
So close to third! Downing fizzes in a ball from the right which eventually breaks to Gerrard who’s effort looks to be heading in to the back of the net but bounces off the post.
The fast tempo from the first-half seems to have dropped a little which is probably to have been expected given the scoreline. However if Liverpool go up the gears there’s likely to be more goals in this for them.
Gomel have probably started the second-half the better of the two sides but need a miracle to get back into this.
The referee blows his whistle and Gomel start the second half. Can they get themselves on to the score sheet after failing to find the back of the net in 135 minutes against the Reds?
The players are making their way back out. It won’t be too long before we kick back off.
The referee blows his whistle and brings an end to an entertaining if somewhat one-sided half of action. Goals from Borini and Gerrard give the Reds a comfortable 2-0 lead, with Downing’s strike in the first-leg making it 3-0.
The Reds have pretty much dominated from the off and look like they’re going to be heading in with a well deserved lead. If they play like this in the second-half then more goals could be on the cards.

2-0, Gerrard!!! More good play from Suarez as the Uruguayan hassles the Gomel defence into a losing possession and he picks up the ball before driving in to the box and picking out the unmarked Gerrard who passes the ball in to back of the net! 3-0 on aggregate now.
Igor Voronkov hits an ambitious effort from way out which forces Reina to scramble across his goalline. The Spaniard mishandle his save and the ball bounces behind for a corner-kick which comes to nothing.
Just over five minutes to go in the half and Liverpool look like they’re heading through in the Europa League. It would take a mammoth turnaround now for Gomel to progress.
A lot of Liverpool’s best moves have comes down the flanks. Rodgers likes to use wideman in his 4-3-3 formation and it looks like it could be a decent tactic going in to the new season.
Almost an equaliser! Dmitri Platonov drives an effort from an angle which Reina beats away from his goal with his gloves.
This time it’s Borini who almost picks out Suarez with a whipped cross from the left which Bushma gratefully gathers up.
The Reds fans are enjoying what they’re seeing so far and it’s easy to see why. Liverpool are playing the ball around really well and their movement is causing Gomel all sorts of trouble.
Almost a second for Liverpool and a second for Borini. Suarez runs clear again and looks like he’s picked out Borini in the middle but a Gomel defenders somehow manages to get back and put the ball out for a corner.
The former Roma man could turn out to be one of the buys of the summer if he can replicate the start he has made tonight on a consistent basis for his new club!

Goal!!! Borini scored on his home debut! More good play from Suarez down the left bamboozles the defence. His attempted cross deflects in to the path of the Italian who hit’s a sharp effort from inside the box which has too much pace on it for Bushma to keep out. 1-0 to the Reds and their start has deserved that!
Another chance for Liverpool. Johnson flies forward again and picks out Downing who plays the ball in to Fabio Borini whose effort is well block. Another chance drops to Suarez who forces Bushma into a decent save.
Best chance of the match so far! Suarez and Gerrard link up again with the midfielder picking out his forward who fires an effort just over the goal from outside the box.
Jose Reina is forced in to action for the first time. Aleksandr Alumona hooks and effort towards goal which is easy for the former Villareal stopper to deal with.
Tonight’s match marks Brendan Rodgers’ first in charge of the club at Anfield after taking over in the summer following Kenny Dalglish’s departure. He impressed guiding Swansea City to a comfortable league finish last season and it will be interesting to see how he does in charge of the Reds.
Suarez drops deep to pick up the ball before laying it off to Johnson who plays the ball straight to Downing. The former Aston Villa man picks out Gerrard on the end of the box but his shots goes straight at the keeper.
The visitors are really struggling to get themselves in to the game so far with Liverpool winning the ball back almost immediately.
Glen Johnson and Stewart Downing link up well down the right but the attack comes to nothing when Downing’s cross sails harmlessly in to Bushma’s gloves.
It’s been a really bright start by the hosts who are passing the ball around well and Luis Suarez is trying to set the tempo for his season by buzzing around the pitch.
Almost an early chance for the Reds to double their advantage. Steven Gerrard whips in one of his trademark free-kicks from out wide but Vladimir Bushma does well to come out and punch the ball to safety.
