Serie A Round 29 Results: Napoli leave it late against Atalanta & Roma catch Lazio in fifth

Elsewhere, Pescara's top-flight future was left in tatters after they crashed at home to Chievo, while Genoa loanee Mattia Cassani gifted his parent club Fiorentina victory

CATANIA 3-1 UDINESE

Catania returned to winning ways on Saturday as they overcame Udinese 3-1 in the battle of the Europa League pretenders at the Angelo Massimino.

Alejandro Gomez gave the hosts the lead just after the restart following a fine move involving him and Argentine colleagues Lucas Castro and Gonzalo Bergessio.

And despite Alessandro Potenza's red card, Gomez found a second goal thanks to a header from Castro's cross. Francesco Lodi then sealed the result with a routine free kick which deflected past Zeljko Brkic.

The Zebrette did reply with a late Luis Muriel consolation, but it was a case of too little too late for his side.

SIENA 0-0 CAGLIARI

Siena failed to make home advantage count after they could only draw 0-0 with Cagliari - a result which keeps the Tuscans in the relegation places.

The hosts, in truth, were extremely lucky to keep a point at the Artemio Franchi as the Sardinians were treated to most of the in-play chances, although neither Victor Ibarbo nor Mauricio Pinilla could find a way past Gianluca Pegolo.

Nonetheless, Cagliari move to 12th place and appear to have secured survival for at least another season.

NAPOLI 3-2 ATALANTA

Napoli needed a late Goran Pandev strike to maintain their flagging Scudetto hopes as they edged towards a 3-2 success against Atalanta.

Edinson Cavani netted from the penalty spot just three minutes in following Luigi Giorgi's trip on Juan Zuniga, but they succumbed to an equaliser midway through the first half when Paolo Cannavaro's diversion on Giacomo Bonaventura's strike crept goal-bound.

Cavani, on the back of a recent drought, then put the southern Italians back in the driving seat as he took down Goran Pandev's lay-off before taking on two defenders and burying the finish.

The visitors, however, appeared to have done enough for a draw when German Denis lobbed the ball over an onrushing Morgan De Sanctis to get one over his former employers, although Pandev was to have a say in the matter soon after.

PESCARA 0-2 CHIEVO

Pescara look destined for an immediate relegation to Serie B after they slumped to a ninth reverse in 10 matches following Sunday's last-gasp 2-0 loss to Chievo.

It was a case of a smash and grab for the Flying Donkeys, who netted twice at the death when Adrian Stoian acutely wrapped up a quick-fire break a minute from time and Luciano's inch-perfect through ball was soon finished off by Cyril Thereau.

FIORENTINA 3-2 GENOA

Mattia Cassani's own goal in the latter stages handed his parent club Fiorentina a 3-2 victory over Genoa who came back from behind twice but to no avail.

The Viola took the initiative on 33 minutes as Adem Ljajic's charging run down the right flank resulted in a cross which Alberto Aquilani tapped home with the goal at his mercy, but Daniele Portanova headed in to level the scores on the hour mark.

Nonetheless, Fiorentina regained their advantage thanks to Alexandros Tzorvas' howler on Manuel Pasqual's ball into the box, with Juan Cuadrado applying the rebound, yet Luca Antonelli pounced on Bosko Jankovic's pass from Gonzalo Rodriguez's mistake.

However, it was Cassani who would ultimately prove decisive as he nodded Rodriguez's header from a corner past Sebastien Frey to gift his parent employers all three points.

TORINO 1-0 LAZIO

Lazio suffered the disappointment of being caught by arch-rivals Roma in fifth place on Sunday after they were left to rue Jonathas' lone finish in a 1-0 reverse to Torino.

The Biancocelesti were dealt the handicap of being a man down for much of proceedings, however, as Michael Ciani was petulantly given his marching orders for two bookable offences inside a first-half minute.

And so it paid when Jonathas, fresh off the substitutes' bench, volleyed home a corner from the near post with only 12 minutes of the clock remaining to inflict a blow on the visitors' top-three ambitions.

ROMA 2-0 PARMA

Aurelio Andreazzoli's fine start to life on the Roma bench continued on Sunday after his troops' 2-0 win over Parma further boosted their Champions League play-off hopes.

The capital side took the lead inside just seven minutes when Alessandro Florenzi's deflection on Daniele De Rossi's ball into the box was turned in by the in-form Erik Lamela.

The points were then bagged on 70 minutes in thunderous fashion as Francesco Totti hit a cannon of a free kick low and hard past the flailing Antonio Mirante to also pile further misery on the Gialloblu.
