AC Milan - Chievo Preview: Rossoneri aim to kick-start season against revitalised Flying Donkeys

Last year's runners-up were left to rue yet more dropped points in Sicily midweek and now face the Gialloblu, who have been given a new lease of life under Eugenio Corini

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri remains deprived of several first-team names in the form of Robinho, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Luca Antonini - all of whom are expected to return to action within the next fortnight - and the suspended Daniele Bonera.

Elsewhere, Djamel Mesbah, Mattia De Sciglio, Rodney Strasser and Didac Vila are similarly crocked, but should mark their returns in the near future.

With the 3-5-2 formation, used in the 2-2 draw with Palermo on Tuesday, set to be scrapped in favour of a 3-4-3, two personnel changes are expected. Out of the team go Kevin Constant and Mathieu Flamini and in their places will be Bojan Krkic, who will take up the right-hand side of the three-pronged attack, and Urby Emanuelson in midfield.

Meanwhile, Chievo have experienced a marked improvement of late following the dismissal of Domenico Di Carlo in early October. The side had slumped to five straight defeats under the former Sampdoria coach, but since the appointment of club legend Eugenio Corini, three wins in their last five matches have helped steady the ship.

They must cater for injuries to four players - Lorenzo Squizzi, Alberto Paloschi, Gennaro Sardo and Cesar - but are expected to make just one alteration to the team that beat Pescara 2-0, as Perparim Hetemaj looks likely to be replaced by Marco Rigoni.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • AC Milan have failed to register consecutive victories in 2012-13 to date.
  • However, their record against Chievo is strong, winning 15 of their 20 previous meetings, including the last 10.
  • This time last season, the Rossoneri were joint-top with Juventus in the Serie A table and nine points better off.
  • Chievo have won just two of these matches - the last coming in December 2005.
  • Their 2-0 win over Pescara midweek was their first clean sheet since the opening matchday.
  • They lie just one point behind their Milanese counterparts in the standings, in 15th place.
