Player Ratings: Inter 3-2 Sampdoria

Visitors Sampdoria saw their hopes of an upset blown out of the water, as strikes from Milito, Palacio and Guarin send in-form Inter into second spot

    Samir Handanoviç

Looked on aghast as his defenders conspired to gift the visitors the lead. Thankfully, his in-form forwards turned round the deficit. Solid and very good off the deck throughout.

  • Javier Adelmar Zanetti

    Javier Adelmar Zanetti

The type of performance we have come to expect from the skipper. Did his normal, tidy job and was never troubled by Sampdoria's attacking options. His normal classy self: offering defensive solidity with the ability to offer a threat going forward.

  • Andrea Ranocchia

    2.00

    Andrea Ranocchia

Gaining an unwanted reputation for defensive clangers. Got in a tangle for Sampdoria's goal, failing to communicate with his central defensive partner Walter Samuel before deflecting the ball into Munari's path.

  • Walter Adrian Samuel

    Walter Adrian Samuel

Boomed a powerful header wide from a Pereira free-kick on 15 minutes, but failed to do his defensive duties minutes later when he and Ranocchia got in a terrible mess to gift Munari Sampdoria's opener. Solid thereafter.

  • Alvaro Pereira

    Alvaro Pereira

Knocked in a decent set-piece for an early chance for Samuel, but was forced back on his heels by a bright start from Sampdoria. Occasionally sloppy in position. Subbed second-half.

  • Fredy Guarín

    Fredy Guarín

Excellent. Very influential in the early stages when he was sharp in the tackle and constantly getting on the ball looking to make things happen. Saw his side rocked by Munari's opener, but kept surging forward to some effect. Fully deserved his goal.

  • Gaby Mudingayi

    Gaby Mudingayi

Belgian worked hard in the middle, but endured a frustrating time of it. Gave the ball away cheaply at times and booked for a full-blooded lunge on Gastaldello. Made way for Cambiasso at the break.

  • Walter Gargano

    Walter Gargano

Provided able support to Guarin in a decent start for the hosts, but found the midfield battle slip away from him a little after the Doriani's shock opener. Got back on the front foot after Milito's equaliser as Inter grabbed hold of the game.

  • Rodrigo Palacio
    16

    3.50

    Rodrigo Palacio

Blasted chances high, wide and handsome at the start of both halves, but looked very sharp. Curled in a dangerous cross-cum-shot in first-half followed by a delicious cross that begged to be finished, but wasn't. Grabbed Inter's all-important second.

  • Diego Alberto Milito

Diego Alberto Milito Top of the Match

Very dangerous. Had shot blocked before hitting the target early on from a slaloming run. Linked up well with Palacio. Inches away from Cassano's cross before the break. Won the penalty he converted clinically after the break to turn the tide.

  • Antonio Cassano
    19
    3
    3.50

    Antonio Cassano

Buzzed around on the fringes for much of the first period, getting into decent positions without getting a clear sight at goal. Remedied his lack of cutting edge second half with two assists.

    Esteban Matias Cambiasso

Introduced at half-time and made an immediate impact playing in Milito in the move that led to the equalising penalty and Costa's dismissal.

  • Sergio Romero

    2.50

    Sergio Romero

Did what he had to do first half handling shots from Milito and Palacio with aplomb. Faced Milito from 12-yards early in the second half, however, and was powerless to stop the Argentine's precision penalty.

  • Andrea Costa

    1
    2.00

    Andrea Costa

Played his part in an impressive first-half performance from the visitors that saw them lead going into the break. A huge dampener was thrown on his evening, however, when he conceded Milito's penalty and was sent off.

  • Gaetano Berardi

    2.50

    Gaetano Berardi

Looked solid defensively and a decent attacking outlet first half. Saw one swirling cross cause Handanovic a few problems and swung in a few other decent deliveries. Subbed after a tactical reshufflle after Costa saw red.

  • Daniele Gastaldello

    3.00

    Daniele Gastaldello

Firm in the tackle and stuck doggedly to his task. Shook off a thundering tackle from Belgian Mudingayi as he and Rossini coped with everything their hosts threw at them first half. It was a different story after the break, however, with just 10 men.

  • Jonathan Rossini

    3.00

    Jonathan Rossini

A strong performance from the defender, but was powerless to prevent his side slipping to defeat after the break as goals from Milito, Palacio and Guarin's undid his side's great work in the opening period.

  • Gianni Munari
    1
    1
    3.00

    Gianni Munari

Grabbed the visitors shock opener, capitalising on some calamitous defending to turn home from close range. Linked up fluidly first half, but saw his side's hopes of getting a positive result cave in after Costa's sending off.

  • Fernando Tissone
    2
    0
    3.00

    Fernando Tissone

A decent performance from the midfielder who did his job with little fuss, but was unable to supply something extra. Increasingly stretched as the game wore on and he was robbed of options.

  • Andrea Poli
    0
    1
    2.50

    Andrea Poli

Showed plenty of poise and technical ability on the ball in the first half, as Sampdoria more than matched their in-form hosts. Forced onto the back foot second half, however, and was sacrificed for Renan as the visitors looked to shut up shop.

  • Roberto Soriano
    0
    0
    2.50

    Roberto Soriano

Involved early on drifting in from the right, threatening without doing anything decisive. Kept causing problems, however, with his intelligent movement and willingness to carry the ball forward. Less impact second half when down to 10.

  • M. Estigarribia
    1
    0
    2.50

    M. Estigarribia

Did well in the opening half helping Sampdoria look tight in defence with some threat going forward. Was drafted back to right-back after Costa's dismissal and had his work cut out as Inter went on the rampage.

  • Eder
    1
    1
    3.00

    Eder

Flitted in and out of the game, but tried to make things happen. Had a few early sights of goal, but was either denied by blocks or failed to test the keeper. Up against it as the game wore on, but grabbed a late consolation.
