  Gaining an unwanted reputation for defensive clangers. Got in a tangle for Sampdoria's goal, failing to communicate with his central defensive partner Walter Samuel before deflecting the ball into Munari's path.

  Boomed a powerful header wide from a Pereira free-kick on 15 minutes, but failed to do his defensive duties minutes later when he and Ranocchia got in a terrible mess to gift Munari Sampdoria's opener. Solid thereafter.

  Excellent. Very influential in the early stages when he was sharp in the tackle and constantly getting on the ball looking to make things happen. Saw his side rocked by Munari's opener, but kept surging forward to some effect. Fully deserved his goal.

  Belgian worked hard in the middle, but endured a frustrating time of it. Gave the ball away cheaply at times and booked for a full-blooded lunge on Gastaldello. Made way for Cambiasso at the break.

  Provided able support to Guarin in a decent start for the hosts, but found the midfield battle slip away from him a little after the Doriani's shock opener. Got back on the front foot after Milito's equaliser as Inter grabbed hold of the game.

  Blasted chances high, wide and handsome at the start of both halves, but looked very sharp. Curled in a dangerous cross-cum-shot in first-half followed by a delicious cross that begged to be finished, but wasn't. Grabbed Inter's all-important second.

  Very dangerous. Had shot blocked before hitting the target early on from a slaloming run. Linked up well with Palacio. Inches away from Cassano's cross before the break. Won the penalty he converted clinically after the break to turn the tide.

  Firm in the tackle and stuck doggedly to his task. Shook off a thundering tackle from Belgian Mudingayi as he and Rossini coped with everything their hosts threw at them first half. It was a different story after the break, however, with just 10 men.
