Player Ratings: Barcelona 2-1 Valladolid

Goal rates the players on show as the newly-crowned Liga champions cruised past the challenge of Miroslav Djukic's men to keep up hopes of reaching 100 points

By Tom Webber

  • Víctor Valdés

    Víctor Valdés

The keeper had very little to do against a largely non-existent Valladolid attack. He did come rushing out of his goal to make a great challenge on Larsson seconds before half-time, but was otherwise untested.

  • Piqué
    12
    2
    3.50

    Piqué

Used the subdued nature of the game as a licence to venture forwards a bit more than usual. He could not contribute anything in the final third, but he made some quality interceptions and read the game at the back.

  • Jordi Alba
    12
    3
    3.00

    Jordi Alba

A tireless performance from the left-back, despite the low tempo of the game. He provided additional width on the left flank, helping to outnumber the Valladolid defenders, and was a bundle of energy throughout.

  • Montoya
    6
    5
    2.50

    Montoya

Did not have an awful lot to do defensively but did not use this fully to his advantage, only venturing down the right on rare occasions.

  • Cesc Fàbregas
    7
    4
    3.00

    Cesc Fàbregas

His movement was extremely intelligent, constantly drifting between the lines and across the field to create space for his team. He linked the play to a high level but did not get into threatening areas himself.

  • Xavi
    12
    3
    3.50

    Xavi

Pressed high up the pitch and did well to close down the opposition quickly. When in possession he was his usual self, knocking the ball across the park confidently and playing a part in both goals.

  • Andrés Iniesta Luján

Andrés Iniesta Luján Top of the Match

Floated about the pitch but was always looking to play a piercing, penetrating pass. He was a source of nervousness for the Valladolid defenders when he glided into the area with the ball and was at the heart of his side's brightest moments.

  • Javier Mascherano
    8
    2
    3.00

    Javier Mascherano

The Argentine was never really stretched as the opposition failed to truly threaten. He knocked some quality passes forward but will be disappointed that a late rash challenge lost his side the clean sheet.

  • Busquets
    8
    0
    2.50

    Busquets

Was very quick to break apart the play and disrupt Valladolid whenever they managed to get in possession. He went down a bit too easily and was disappointing as he was caught on the ball too often.

  • David Villa
    6
    5
    2.50

    David Villa

Looked extremely lively early on, cutting in from the left and bending a shot just off target. He continued to work hard but he was unable to get into any areas to worry Valladolid and looked short of confidence.

  • Pedro
    9
    5
    3.50

    Pedro

Opened the scoring in the 21st minute, though it was not his most convincing of efforts. He was always a danger when he moved inside to more central areas and should have got a second, hitting the bar and the side netting after the break.

Substitutions

  • Thiago Alcántara
    10
    0
    3.00

    Thiago Alcántara

Replaced Busquets in the 64th minute and looked confident when in possession, helping to push Barca forward late on.

  • Jonathan Dos Santos
    2
    9

    Jonathan Dos Santos

Came on for Iniesta in the 76th minute and played a role in the concession of the penalty.

  • Tello
    6
    1

    Tello

Was given seven minutes in place of Fabregas so could not influence the match.

  • Jaime
    0
    0
    3.50

    Jaime

Should probably have done more to keep out Pedro's effort, letting it run beneath him due to an unusual dive. He redeemed himself with a string of saves in the second half to keep out a number of shots.

  • Marc Valiente
    1
    1
    2.50

Marc Valiente Flop of the Match

Had a fairly decent game until he somehow contrived to put the ball into his own net from Xavi's corner just before half-time. He was fortunate that with the title already won, Barca were not at their most ruthless.

  • Jesús Rueda
    0
    0
    2.50

    Jesús Rueda

His team had a steady footing in the game until his sloppy pass gifted possession straight to Xavi, who went on to assist the opening goal. He did recover though and was a powerful physical force in the heart of defence.

  • Carlos Peña
    0
    0
    2.50

    Carlos Peña

Failed to keep up with Pedro as he raced in to slide home the opening goal. He continued to be beaten by the Barca winger in what was ultimately a disappointing performance.

  • Balenziaga
    1
    0
    2.50

    Balenziaga

At times found it difficult to keep track of Villa and afforded him too much space in the wide areas. When Alba pushed forward in support there was little he could do to stop Barca from getting in.

  • Óscar
    0
    0
    2.50

    Óscar

Was unable to weave his usual influence on the game as Valladolid were unable to hold onto the ball. Without his team looking to get forward he could offer them very little and was forced to chase back.

  • Daniel Larsson
    0
    0
    2.50

    Daniel Larsson

Used his pace well to track back and help keep Alba from overwhelming his defence in the wide areas. Unfortunately he could not make as good a use of his speed at the other end.

  • Omar
    0
    0
    3.00

    Omar

Had very little involvement on the left flank for the visitors. He did plenty of running to get back and help his team-mates out but could not worry the relatively-inexperienced Montoya.

  • Álvaro Rubio
    0
    0
    3.00

    Álvaro Rubio

Passed the ball impressively in midfield. He dropped in to help restrict the space in which Barcelona could operate but still used possession wisely in a decent display at Camp Nou.

  • Víctor Pérez
    1
    0
    3.50

    Víctor Pérez

Put in a very versatile performance in midfield, showing a combative streak as well as great technique when on the ball. He netted a consolation for his side with a sweetly-struck penalty.

  • Javi Guerra
    0
    0
    2.50

    Javi Guerra

Received practically no service for the full 90 minutes and was barely involved in anything of note. He did not get an opportunity to test Valdes in a disappointing evening.

Substitutions

  • Sastre

    0

    Sastre

Brought on in the 86th minute in place of Alvaro Rubio.

  • Bueno

    2.50

    Bueno

Replaced Oscar in the 69th minute but could not make his team more potent in the final third.

  • Manucho

    0
    3.00

    Manucho

Came on for Javi Guerra in the 77th minute and won his side a penalty after a powerful run.
