Not at fault for any of Madrid's goals, and made a smart double-save on Marcelo's cross and Karim Benzema's follow up.

Slow off his mark to close down Gonzalo Higuain, who then proceeded to belt home Madrid's third goal of the game.

    Mikel San José Domínguez

Allowed Cristiano Ronaldo's flick to pass through his legs but it was a rare mishap on a solid showing from the defender, who put in a strong shift.

    Borja Ekiza

Kept tabs on Karim Benzema well, and made sure that the French striker was always attended too any time he looked like peeling away into space.

  • Ramalho

    Ramalho

Completely out-jumped by Cristiano Ronaldo, who headed home Madrid’s second from a free kick, bringing back memories of Patrice Evra’s similar misfortune in the Champions League. Hauled off immediately after by his coach.

    Iturraspe

Involved in many interesting combinations with the other attack-minded players in his team. But, after an encouraging first-half, he could not quite maintain the intensity after a break and a few careless fouls showed signs of a fatigued player

  • Susaeta

    Susaeta

Caused the Madrid defence no end of problems with his movement on and off the ball in the first half, though he was almost a non-factor after the break. Switching flanks regularly, he worked himself into space in dangerous areas in the opening 45, and saw a low shot saved by Diego Lopez, before he was double-teamed off a close range finish by Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria.

  • Ander Herrera

    Ander Herrera

Effective at the base of the home side’s midfield, wining the ball back regularly and generally attending to his defensive duties well. He did have a few instances to have a go on goal but he could not find his range, though one effort at the end of the first half whistled painfully wide of the top corner.

  • Fernando Llorente

    Fernando Llorente

Led the line convincingly in the first half and was a troublesome proposition for the opposition defence. His physical presence offered his side a constant target on crosses and set-pieces but he also was able to link play effectively both facing up and with his back to goal. However, he faded noticeably in the second half.

  • Ibai Gómez

    Ibai Gómez

Bent one effort with the outside of his boot badly over the bar from a good position, and that rather summed up his evening ,as he was wasteful when in possession.

    Muniain

At times he was tricky to pick up in that zone just in front of the back four. Had more than one enterprising runs towards goal, and showed good awareness of his team-mates when in dangerous positions.

    Diego López Rodríguez

Stood tall to deny Markel Susaeta's low drove from a testing position, and gave another commanding performance. Iker Casillas' injury may have thrust him into the starting XI at the Bernabeu after his transfer in January but his strong displays since have kept him there.

  • Pepe

    Pepe

On hand to hack clear a few dangerous crosses from the Bilbao wide players, and more often than not, he was in the right place at the right time to take care of danger.

  • Sergio Ramos

    Sergio Ramos

Posed one or two problems by the considerable speed of Bilbao on the flanks but, in the end, he did not often put a foot wrong and completed his task.

  • Marcelo

    Marcelo

A little less secure than Sergio Ramos on the opposite flank as Susaeta found space in behind more than once, but he countered that with some enterprising play in the attacking third, forcing a save from the opposition keeper with a tricky cross.

  • Raúl Albiol

    Raúl Albiol

Though the considerable frame of Fernando Llorente was a handful to deal with, the defender proved himself to be a solid deterrent in front of his goal.

  • Sami Khedira

    Sami Khedira

Appeared cumbersome on occasion, particularly when trying to shot down the passing triangles that had sprung up in the attacking third from Bilbao.

  • Xabi Alonso

    Xabi Alonso

Set up Cristiano Ronaldo's second goal with a well-flighted free kick and, though his lack of mobility was a hindrance on occasion, his discipline kept him competitive.

  • Luka Modric

    Luka Modric

The Croatian was smacked painfully in the face with the ball in the first half and, to add insult to injury, was inexplicably booked for handball by the referee. Tracked back well to offer more protection for his defence, and improved offensively as the second half wore on.

  • Ángel Di María

    Ángel Di María

The Argentine made a fantastic challenge in his own box to deny Susaeta a shooting chance and nearly came up trumps at the other end moments later with a run and shot that rebounded off the crossbar.

Cristiano Ronaldo Top of the Match

A cut above the rest. The Portuguese superstar racked up his 50th goal of another incredible campaign, and was the main reason that the scoreline was not as close as it should have been. An excellent free kick opened the scoring, a thumping header extended it and a clever flick set up the third.

  • Karim Benzema
    18
    8
    2.50

    Karim Benzema

Largely a thankless task for the Frenchman up front, as he barely saw the ball, and on the rare instance he managed to work himself into a goalscoring position, was ignored by his team-mates.

Substitutions

  • Gonzalo Higuaín

    Gonzalo Higuaín

Clinical off the bench again, lashing home convincingly shortly after coming on to pile on his side's third goal.

  • José Callejón

    José Callejón

Came close with a mazy run and shot that flew the wrong side of the post.
