    Dani Aranzubia

The goalkeeper was comfortable when coming off of his line and commanded his area well. Got a hand to Di Maria's first-half free kick and made another brilliant stop from Ronaldo late in the second half.

  • Ayoze

    Ayoze

He picked his moments to drive down the left but never seemed to make the most of his ventures forwards. He stayed tight to Di Maria in the first half but lost his way a little after the break.

  • Silvio

    Silvio

Took an early knock as Aranzubia came to claim a cross in the Deportivo area. He carried on for a while but was eventually withdrawn in the 26th minute.

  • Kaká

    Kaká

Had a decent evening in the heart of defence, tracking the runners and making some crucial interceptions. He read the play well and kept Higuain quiet for much of the game, until he netted a late winner.

  • Carlos Marchena

    Carlos Marchena

The experienced centre-back had a solid first half as Madrid were kept at arms length. However, following Mourinho's trio of substitutions, he failed to keep his defence organised and that ultimately led to their downfall.

  • Paulo Assunçao

    Paulo Assunçao

A combative performance from the midfielder. He was very disciplined and did not attack unnecessarily. His battling display in the middle unsettled the Madrid players and protected his defence well.

  • A. Aguilar

    A. Aguilar

The Colombian enjoyed a decent night in midfield as he picked up the ball and it moved it along quickly and accurately. He was not scared of getting forward either and he made some brilliant late runs into the danger area.

  • Valerón

    Valerón

The veteran struggled to influence proceedings during the first half as Madrid enjoyed more of the possession. He made a few good passes but did not feed Riki and the wide players frequently enough.

  • Pizzi

    Pizzi

A great performance from the Portuguese saw him get a number of promising shots away at goal. He slid a good pass into Riki for the first goal and was unlucky not to get one himself as Marcelo cleared his shot off the line.

  • Riki
    12
    1
    3.50

    Riki

The forward immediately looked up to the challenge with a thumping fifth-minute shot and continued to worry the Madrid defence every time he got on the ball. Put the hosts ahead with a cracking shot, though Diego Lopez could have done better.

  • Bruno Gama
    3
    1
    3.00

    Bruno Gama

Made a number of incisive dribbles from the wide areas. He had a decent effort on goal turned behind by Diego Lopez on the stroke of half time but he tracked back to help provide cover for his defence.

Substitutions

  • Alex Bergantiños

    Alex Bergantiños

Was forced to play out of position at right-back after replacing Silvio in the first half. He did not look too comfortable, and was beaten easily by Ronaldo repeatedly.

  • Jesús Vázquez

    Jesús Vázquez

Replaced the centre-back Kaka in the 58th minute and did not embarrass himself in an unfamiliar role.

  • Nélson Oliveira

    Nélson Oliveira

Came on for Riki in the 75th minute but was unable to impact the game.

Diego López Rodríguez Flop of the Match

Looked confident when coming off of his line in the early exchanges but let his side down as he was beaten at his near post by Riki's effort. He did make a decent stop from Bruno Gama soon after, though.

  • Pepe
    19
    13
    3.00

    Pepe

The centre-back was extremely sluggish as the Deportivo forwards got in behind far too frequently. His positioning alongside Arbeloa was not always great and, although he did not look comfortable, he got the job done.

  • Ricardo Carvalho
    13
    20
    2.50

    Ricardo Carvalho

Found himself being beaten by Riki and Bruno Gama often when Deportivo counterattacked with pace. He picked up a rather cheap yellow card in the 17th minute and was walking a tightrope from then on that limited his effectiveness.

  • Marcelo
    29
    9
    2.50

    Marcelo

Failed to provide the customary attacking intent that he usually provides in what was a very reserved 90 minutes. As captain for the night it was a disappointing performance.

  • Arbeloa
    23
    12
    2.50

    Arbeloa

The right-back was the weak link at the back for his team as Deportivo got a lot of joy down his flank during the first half. He did not get forward enough to provide his team with an attacking outlet that was much-needed.

  • Michael Essien
    15
    18
    2.50

    Michael Essien

Did not take the chance to show Mourinho what he can do in midfield after largely being used out of position since joining on loan from Chelsea. He was sloppy in possession and was taken off in the 57th minute.

  • Luka Modric
    18
    23
    2.50

    Luka Modric

Tried to orchestrate the direction of the play from midfield for Madrid as he popped the ball off nicely. However, defensively he was shocking, never closing the ball and letting Deportivo counter at will.

  • Ángel Di María
    23
    26
    2.50

    Ángel Di María

Forced a save from Aranzubia with a well-struck free kick in the 15th minute. From then on he did not get the opportunity to run at the defenders and was unable to supply his team with any invention from the wings. He was dismissed after a moment of stupidity in stoppage time.

  • Kaká
    190
    5
    3.50

    Kaká

The Brazilian was always on the move but could not offer that creative spark in the first half. He was left on for the full 90 by Mourinho and repaid his coach's faith by bending in a lovely equaliser in the 73rd minute.

  • Gonzalo Higuaín
    32
    14
    3.00

    Gonzalo Higuaín

The Argentine's movement was rather predictable, and when he did make a good run the timing seemed to be wrong and he was caught offside. Nevertheless, he popped up when it mattered to bag his side a winner.

  • José Callejón
    24
    19
    3.00

    José Callejón

Made some decent runs either side of the break but perhaps should have hit the target with at least one of his second-half efforts. He was moved to left-back for the final 30 minutes and kept things solid.

Substitutions

  • Sami Khedira
    35
    7
    3.00

    Sami Khedira

Replaced Essien as part of a trio of substitutions and added some solidity in the middle of the park for Madrid. His presence was reassuring to his team-mates and he linked the play well.

  • Mesut Özil
    51
    7
    3.00

    Mesut Özil

Came on in the 57th minute and helped Madrid keep the pressure on the hosts in the closing stages with some crisp passing.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo Top of the Match

The Portuguese tormented the Deportivo defence following his introduction. Could well have got a goal but for a good save for Aranzubia but he put it on a plate for Higuain to net the late goal.
