    Iker Casillas

The Madrid captain had very little to do apart from pick the ball out of the back of his net after Riki opened the scoring in the 16th minute.

  • Raphaël Varane

    Raphaël Varane

The young centre-back put in a mature performance in defence, not putting a foot wrong throughout the game playing alongside Pepe.

  • Pepe

    Pepe

The Portugal international perhaps should have done better for Riki's goal, as the Deportivo forward ghosted past him on his way into the area. He showed his attacking credentials in the second half, heading home Madrid's fourth in the 66th minute.

  • Sergio Ramos
    54

    3.50

    Sergio Ramos

The 26-year-old had a confident game tonight, playing at right-back instead of Alvaro Arbeloa, as Raphael Varane was chosen at centre-half. The Spain international didn't stand out, but neither did he make any mistakes, and was always available as an attacking outlet on the right.

  • Marcelo
    49
    6
    3.50

    Marcelo

The full-back had little to do defensively but made a real nuisance of himself going forward, combining well with Di Maria throughout the match down the left-hand side, and was largely responsible for Manuel Pablo going off at half-time.

  • Sami Khedira
    51

    3.50

    Sami Khedira

The Germany international put in a brilliant performance for Madrid in central midfield alongside Luka Modric. He was everywhere, putting in tackles in his own half, while also playing a role going forward as Madrid pushed forward more and more as the match wore on.

  • Mesut Özil
    57

    Mesut Özil

Restored to the starting line-up after being left out against Rayo last week, the Germany international was neat and tidy on the ball in the first half before being replaced by Kaka at half-time.

  • Luka Modric

    Luka Modric

The Croatia international showed his class with a fine assist for Di Maria for Madrid's second goal, and was one of the home side's best performers before making way for Alonso in the second half.

  • Ángel Di María

    Ángel Di María

The Argentina international was superb this evening, proving a constant thorn to the Deportivo defence while also helping out defensively when needed. Won the penalty that allowed Ronaldo to make it 1-1 in the first half before then getting on the scoresheet himself with a neat finish.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo Top of the Match

The Portugal international helped himself to a hat-trick for his side tonight, drawing his side level from the spot, and then making it 3-1 with a close-range header, before completing his treble late on, again from the penalty spot. He looked far happier than the newspaper headlines suggested, pulling off a number of extravagant flicks in the second half.

  • Gonzalo Higuaín
    27
    25
    2.00

    Gonzalo Higuaín

The 24-year-old striker will be disappointed not to have left more of a mark on the match, or at least get among the goals as those around him flourished. Was withdrawn in the second half and replaced by Benzema.

Substitutions

  • Xabi Alonso

    3.50

    Xabi Alonso

Replaced Modric in the second half and immediately nearly got his name on the scoresheet with a rasping drive from distance that was tipped over by Aranzubia. Got the assist for Pepe's goal with a superbly-taken free-kick.

  • Kaká
    112

    Kaká

The Brazilian came on for Ozil at half-time and did well during his time on the pitch, winning the penalty late on for his side after Evaldo handled his strike inside the box.

  • Karim Benzema
    53
    8
    3.50

    Karim Benzema

Had little time to stamp his influence on the game after coming on in the second half but looked bright and lively nonetheless.

  • Dani Aranzubia
    5
    6
    3.00

    Dani Aranzubia

The 33-year-old goalkeeper could do little to stop Madrid's five goals, being beaten from the spot by Cristiano Ronaldo twice, and being let down by his defenders for Ronaldo's second and Pepe's header in the second half. Made a couple of decent saves from Higuain and Alonso in the second half.

  • Manuel Pablo
    3
    13
    1.50

Manuel Pablo Flop of the Match

The full-back gave away the first-half penalty for a clumsy foul on Angel Di Maria, and the Deportivo captain looked increasily shaky as the half wore on and his legs began to tire. Replaced at half-time by Laureano.

  • Evaldo
    2
    9
    2.00

    Evaldo

Never looked comfortable against the likes of Di Maria and Ronaldo, and was beaten on numerous occasions in the left-back position. Was at fault for the second penalty late on as he handled Kaka's shot.

  • Zé Castro
    2
    8
    2.00

    Zé Castro

Started the match well and stopped Higuain and Ronaldo on a couple of occasions early on but was dragged out of position for Di Maria's goal, and then stood and watched as Ronaldo headed in Madrid's third. Could do little to stop Madrid in the second half as they controlled the match.

  • Carlos Marchena
    2
    9
    2.00

    Carlos Marchena

Like Castro, Marchena began the game solidly but lost his bearings for the third goal as Ronaldo headed home unchallenged. Managed to put in a couple of decent tackles in the second half on Benzema and Kaka late on as Madrid threatened to run riot.

  • Alex Bergantiños
    3
    8
    2.50

    Alex Bergantiños

The 27-year-old was given the huge task of limiting the time afforded to Madrid's midfielders, and after putting in some good challenges early on, he faded as Madrid came back into the game after going behind.

  • Juan Domínguez
    3
    8
    2.50

    Juan Domínguez

Playing alongside Bergantinos in midfield for the visitors, Dominguez was confident on the ball in the first half, but was off the pace in the second as Khedira and Modric excelled.

  • A. Aguilar
    3
    8
    3.00

    A. Aguilar

The Colombian was one of his side's better performers, keeping a hold of the ball well in the first half, and looking to launch counterattacks whenever possible in the second period.

  • Pizzi
    2
    8
    2.50

    Pizzi

The midfielder was a bystander this evening and failed to leave a mark on the game, as Madrid's midfield controlled the match in the centre of the park.

  • Riki
    8
    8
    3.00

    Riki

The 32-year-old attacker broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish in the 16th minute, after picking up possession on the edge of the Madrid penalty area, bursting forward, then slipping the ball past Iker Casillas and into the bottom left-hand corner. Saw little of the ball thereafter, though.

  • Bruno Gama
    1
    9
    2.50

    Bruno Gama

Gama linked well with Riki during the first half as Deportivo enjoyed their best period of the game, but struggled to have an impact as Madrid came back into the match and was restricted to chasing loose balls and pressuring the Madrid backline.

Substitutions

  • Laure
    2
    8
    2.50

    Laure

The full-back replaced the exhausted Manuel Pablo at half-time and did slightly better during his time on the pitch, stopping Di Maria and Marcelo on a couple of occasions when it looked like they might increase Madrid's lead.

  • Javi Camuñas
    5
    6
    3.00

    Javi Camuñas

The forward on loan from Villarreal had no opportunity to impact on the game, with Madrid well on top by the time he was introduced in the second half.

  • Nélson Oliveira
    6
    6
    3.00

    Nélson Oliveira

Brought on in the second half as Deportivo engaged damage limitation, and had no effect up front with the ball predominantly in Deportivo's own half.
