Bayern Munich 3-0 Augsburg: Resounding win for die Roten in Heynckes' final home game

Jupp Heynckes' Bundesliga send-off went as planned, with the hosts scoring three goals late on to ensure a convincing win against their fellow Bavarians

Bayern Munich recorded the 28th win of their extraordinary Bundesliga season with a 3-0 victory over Bavarian rivals Augsburg.

Thomas Muller got the first goal of a slow, end of season encounter, heading home with just over 20 minutes to play and Xherdan Shaqiri made the points safe soon after before Luiz Gustavo added insult to injury just before full-time.

The first half was a drab affair. While Augsburg perhaps went into the clash expecting nothing, Bayern had a fairly slack attitude, with their title long since wrapped up and two finals on the horizon.

That said, the hosts could easily have gone ahead after just a matter of minutes. Arjen Robben's cross found Muller, who got in a header, but Alex Manninger got himself behind the ball to make a point-blank block.

It was Augsburg who threatened next, with Tobias Werner latching on to a lofted through-ball, squaring up to Manuel Neuer, who got off his line brilliantly to narrow the angle and make the save.

Franck Ribery was looking ever-more dangerous down the Bayern left and left the visitors' defence in pieces just before the 20-minute mark, firing in a great cross from the left which found Mario Mandzukic, who looked to have found the net, only for Manninger to keep the ball out with his face.

Bayern were dominating possession but Augsburg remained a threat on the break and could have had a penalty when Javi Martinez appeared to catch Ji Dong-Won just inside the box, but the referee waved away appeals, much to the relief of the Spaniard.

Ribery had an effort blocked just before the break as a workmanlike showing from the relegation candidates ensured parity at half-time.

Bayern went out with more intent after the interval and could have had two goals through Bastian Schweinsteiger within five minutes of the restart.

First, the Germany vice-captain bent a free kick over the wall but inches wide of Manninger's post before he was picked out by Muller on the edge of the box and sent a shot straight at the former Juventus keeper.

At the other end, meanwhile, Markus Weinzierl's side had a couple of sights of goal. Werner met a brilliant cross from Andre Hahn at the far post but sent his shot into the ground and over the bar.

Minutes later, Ji took a dig from distance which took a massive deflection off a Bayern defender but, with Neuer completely beaten, cannoned off the top of the bar when it looked to be heading in.

Despite Augsburg's chances Bayern were looking to be more of a threat with every passing minute. Robben went on a trademark run into the box but could only shoot into the side-netting before a superb header from Ragnar Klavan denied Mandzukic a certain goal.

And the first goal finally arrived with 22 minutes to spare. An over-hit cross came to Dante on the left-hand side and the former Borussia Monchengladbach man whipped in a ball to Muller, who headed unmarked beyond Manninger.

Moments later, Ribery held off a couple of challenges as he ran into the box before squaring it to Shaqiri, who was able to turn and pass the ball into the bottom corner to wrap up the points.

The third duly arrived three minutes from time, with Ribery cutting it back for Luiz Gustavo on the edge of the box and the Brazilian drove an effort beyond Manninger, who got a hand to the ball but could not take the gloss off a resounding win.
