Ligue 1 Round 34 Results: Marseille win again, as Gourcuff hits back to secure Lyon draw

Elie Baup's men secured a 12th 1-0 success, going seven games without conceding. Elsewhere, Lyon and Lille were held, the latter giving away a three-goal lead against Sochaux

LILLE 3-3 SOCHAUX

Sochaux came back from 3-0 down to secure a point late on as Lille saw their Champions League hopes take a severe blow at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole on Friday evening.

Salomon Kalou opened the scoring on 25 minutes, picking the ball up and cutting in before his low shot beat the goalkeeper. The Cote d'Ivoire international doubled his and Lille's tally on the stroke of half-time with a fine effort after some lax defending from the visitors.

Eric Hely's men were again questionable at the back and this led to the third, as Marko Basa headed in from a set piece situation. Cedric Kante, nevertheless got the first of the three with a fine sweeping strike from a free kick.

But the drama continued, as Sochaux's penchant for scoring from free kicks was evident once more. First, Vincent Nogueira drilled in a low effort which beat Steeve Elana, before the same player curled in another stunner on the 87th minute, despite slipping as his shot beat the goalkeeper off the post.

LORIENT 0-1 OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE

Marseille picked up an astonishing 12th 1-0 league win of the season and a seventh game without conceding as they won away to Lorient at Stade du Moustoir.

Both sides enjoyed chances in the early stages, with Mathieu Valbuena ensuring Fabien Audard tipped his free kick behind for a corner, and Maxime Baca saw his effort cleared hurriedly off the line by Lucas Mendes.

The goal went fortuitously for OM, with Andre Ayew racing into position but seeing his stinging strike parried by Audard into the path of Valbuena, who stroked home from outside the box with a gaping goal.

Despite further chances, Lorient couldn't penetrate the visitors' defence, but the game turned sour towards the end when Audard and Ayew were sent off, with the goalkeeper slapping Valbuena across the face to seal a bad-tempered finish.

AC AJACCIO 2-1 MONTPELLIER

AC Ajaccio took a major step towards Ligue 1 survival after securing a 2-1 victory against champions Montpellier, whose European ambitions are now over.

After a slightly turgid first half, the game spiced up in the opening stages of the second with Fousseini Diawara seeing red for a challenge on Souleymane Camara in the penalty box. Up stepped Younes Belhanda, whose attempted 'panenka' was nonchalantly saved by Guillermo Ochoa.

Nevertheless, the visitors took the lead through Anthony Mounier, who fired in from Henri Bedimo's sweeping low cross. Anthony Delort equalised from the spot on 82 minutes after Abdelhamid El Kaoutari's foul in the box brought about his own red card.

Ajaccio continued in the ascendancy and grabbed the winner in the last minute through Denis Oliech, whose strike brought about delirious scenes at Stade Francois Coty.

BORDEAUX 0-0 STADE DE REIMS

Bordeaux were held to a stubborn 0-0 draw against Stade de Reims in an uninspiring encounter at Stade Chaban-Delmas on Saturday.

The lack of attacking chances in this game suited Reims, who move up to 38 points, four clear of the drop zone with four games remaining.

The result also leaves Bordeaux unable to qualify for the Europa League via Ligue 1, but they can qualify through winning the Coupe de France, with the semi-finals taking place next week.

BASTIA 0-0 TOULOUSE FC

Bastia were unable to break through Toulouse's defence, as both sides ended a run of successive defeats with a point at Stade Armand Cesari.

The visitors were more enterprising and confident at the back to arrest a run of three consecutive losses with a point in Corsica.

Frederic Hantz's men spurned various opportunities, but were denied by the brilliance of Ali Ahamada in the Toulouse goal, as the hosts continue to be wary of the relegation battle unfolding beneath them.

STADE BREST 0-2 STADE RENNAIS

Rennes won for the first time since early February in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Brest, who are now odds-on favourites to go down.

The beaten Coupe de la Ligue finalists had not won a game since their key player Romain Alessandrini suffered a season-ending injury more than two and a half months ago.

But they were determined to give outgoing coach Frederic Antoinetti a good send off, with Abdoulaye Doucoure firing the hosts in front midway through the first half.

Victor Montano doubled the advantage 12 minutes later as Rennes secured a comfortable win at Stade Francis Le Ble, with the hosts now needing a miracle to escape the Ligue 1 drop following six successive defeats.

VALENCIENNES 0-0 AS NANCY

Valenciennes and Nancy played out the third goalless draw in an otherwise dry Saturday match night at Stade du Hainaut.

The result leaves Nancy unbeaten in six games, a dramatic turn of events for Patrick Gabriel's side who seemingly were favourites to be relegated, as they now sit 16th, a point clear of the drop zone.

Daniel Sanchez's men should've done better in all honesty, with a series of gilt-edged chances, but the draw is a fair result for the two injury-hit teams.

OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS 1-1 SAINT-ETIENNE

Olympique Lyonnais rallied to secure a 1-1 draw against rivals Saint-Etienne in a fiercely contested Rhone derby, which this time had the added bonus of both teams seeking Champions League qualification.

Anthony Lopes, the young goalkeeper, started for the hosts as Remy Vercoutre is suffering from ligament damage, with the number one out for almost six months, but his deputy enjoyed an admirable outing.

Kurt Zouma headed the visitors in front from a Yohan Mollo corner, with the former Nancy star picking up an 11th assist - a league high. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang spurned a brilliant opportunity, scuffing a shot wide following a brilliant counterattack.

Lyon hit back, equalising through an unlikely source. Yoann Gourcuff, who endured another injury-hit campaign bundled home off Stephane Ruffier, to seal his first goal since the opening day as Lyon cling onto third spot.

OGC NICE 3-1 ESTAC TROYES

Nice kept up their fight for a Champions League place with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Troyes, with the south coast club now just three ponts behind Lyon in third.

Mohamed Yattara put the visitors ahead with a 20th-minute strike before Renato Civelli restored parity just after the half-hour mark.

Dario Cvitanich scored his 15th league goal of the season on the stroke of half-time before January signing Luigi Bruins sealed the victory with 13 minutes to spare.

The result leaves Claude Puel's side in the running for a shock podium place along with Lille and Saint-Etienne as Troyes look set to be relegated next week if they lose.
