Player Ratings: Liverpool 1-0 QPR

The hosts put in a dominating performance in Jamie Carragher's last ever match, but Philipe Coutinho's solitary goal from distance was enough to see off the visitors

    Pepe Reina

The Spaniard had very little to do in the first-half with QPR restricted to pop-shots during the initial 45-minutes. The ‘keeper had even less to do in the second, making for a dull afternoon for Liverpool’s No. 25.

  • Glen Johnson

    Glen Johnson

With not too much to do defensively, the England right-back was predominantly found racing into the QPR half, working with Downing to create several Liverpool attacks.

  • José Enrique

    José Enrique

Things were a little busier down Enrique’s end than Johnson’s and the former Newcastle United man was troubled on occasion by the likes of Zamora and Mbia. But the Spaniard looked comfortable on defensive duties and as always contributed confidently up the other end of the pitch too, sporting the odd dash into the QPR area.

  • Jamie Carragher

    Jamie Carragher

Bowing out of professional football, Carragher put in another solid performance that shows the defender could easily carry on his career for another season. The centre-back’s most notable moment of the game, however, was a 30 yard screamer that smashed against the QPR woodwork and would have marked a truly perfect send off.

  • Martin Skrtel

    Martin Skrtel

Coming back into the side after injury, the defender looked solid at most times, but had the odd sloppy moment that gave QPR hope in front of goal.

  • Coutinho

    4.50

    Coutinho

As Liverpool started quickly, so did the young Brazilian; heading an early corner at goal that replays showed should have been counted as a goal. The former Inter Milan player didn’t have to wait too long before his name was on the scoresheet, blasting one in from distance with just over 20 minutes played. This attacking spirit carried on through the game until being subbed in the second-half.

  • Jordan Henderson

Lucas’ midfield partner had a solid game all round and was happy to commit to the attacking part of Liverpool’s game too.

  • Stewart Downing

    Stewart Downing

Worked brilliantly well with Johnson on the overlap, but just lacked that final ball into the box.

  • Lucas Leiva

    Lucas Leiva

The midfielder played admirably in the middle and kept Liverpool moving forward all the time.

Jordon Ibe Top of the Match

The 17-year-old academy midfielder making his full Liverpool debut was certainly out to prove a point against QPR, giving Michael Harriman a hard time out on the left, and was the architect of the host’s first goal, laying off the ball for Coutinho to score from about 30 yards out.

  • Daniel Sturridge

    Daniel Sturridge

Following on from his hat-trick against Fulham, the striker’s momentum seemed to have dissipated somewhat and didn’t have a great deal of chances on goal, but looked tricky to deal with and gave the QPR defenders a busy afternoon.

Came on for Carragher late on to give the defence some fresh legs.

    Fabio Borini

The striker came on in the second-half, but had little activity in front of goal.

  • Robert Green

    Robert Green

Some might say that Green could have done better to stop Coutinho’s long-range opener, but with the ball moving away from the former England international, it was by no means an easy save to make. He was kept busy all game from that point and made several great saves to ensure it stayed just 1-0.

  • Armand Traoré

    Armand Traoré

Downing and Johnson combined well throughout the game to give the full-back many headaches and there was rarely a time the defender came out on top.

  • Clint Hill

    Clint Hill

The R’s captain, like his defensive partner, found it difficult to play at Liverpool’s pace and level of football. Sturridge, despite being not being the player he was at Craven Cottage a week ago, still gave the centre-back plenty of work to do.

  • Nedum Onuoha

    2.50

    Nedum Onuoha

The former Manchester City man had more to worry about from Coutinho as he did Sturridge, but had a hard time of it nonetheless with Liverpool bombarding the QPR defence time after time and Onuoha struggled at times to cope with the pressure.

  • Michael Harryman

    2.00

    Michael Harryman

Up against the youngster Ibe, Harriman did not enjoy his afternoon defending, with the winger taking on the right-back with every chance and getting past him on the majority of occasions.

  • Shaun Derry

    2.00

    Shaun Derry

The veteran lost out in the midfield battle time after time, with the likes of Lucas and Henderson confidently playing the ball around the QPR man. As a result, the visitors were rarely able to start any attacks from the middle and had to rely on the wings.

  • Ji-Sung Park

    2.50

    Ji-Sung Park

One of QPR’s more active members, Park was always looking to start the visitor’s offensive moves, but on most occasions was halted by Liverpool’s stronger defenders.

  • Andros Townsend

    2.00

    Andros Townsend

The midfielder never really got up to the speed of the game, and with Ibe and Coutinho around him playing much better, Townsend found it difficult to add anything to QPR’s cause.

  • Stéphane M'Bia

    0
    2.00

    Stéphane M'Bia

A quiet performance from the midfielder who, like Townsend, failed to keep up with Liverpool’s strength on the ball and confident attacking moves.

  • Loïc Remy

    0
    2.00

    Loïc Remy

The QPR striker looked dangerous at times and had a couple of shots that might have worried Reina if they carried a little more sting on them, but overall had a quiet afternoon, with QPR not playing out of their own third for much of the game.

  • B. Zamora
    1
    1
    1.50

    B. Zamora Flop of the Match

Not much can be said for Zamora’s performance: he rarely got a touch of the ball and failed to every truly test Reina, but the service from behind can very much attribute to that, too.

Substitutions

Arrived in the middle of the second-half and couldn’t revive a poor looking QPR side.

    Junior Hoilett

The former Blackburn Rovers attacker came into the game with 20 minutes to go, but couldn’t help QPR peg back.
