The 10-man Canaries cling on to a well-earned point after questionable handball calls from referee Chris Foy saw their goalkeeper sent off and their hosts awarded a penalty

    Simon Mignolet

Given very little to do as the hosts dominated the game, looked to be claiming Kamara's header before Hoolahan stole in to grab the opener. Raced from his line to deny Holt after Bramble let the substitute in on goal.

Playing his first home game for over a month, the Tottenham loanee nipped forward well and tested Norwich's goalkeepers with a couple of long-distance efforts. Found Bennett a keen opponent, but managed to keep pace with him well for the large part.

  • John O'Shea

    John O'Shea

Managed to keep Kamara at arm's length for the best part, but was given a tough examination by Holt as the Canaries' No.9 got the better of him and began to give the Canaries a better focal point.

  • Carlos Javier Cuéllar

    Carlos Javier Cuéllar

A comfortable performance on his return to first-team action, but he was forced off in the second half after tangling with Bennett and was replaced by Bramble.

  • Sebastian Larsson

    Sebastian Larsson

Ticked things over well in midfield and saw Camp brilliantly keep out his long-range effort late in the first half. Couldn't provide anything penetrating as the hosts searched desperately for a second-half winner.

  • Craig Gardner

    Craig Gardner

Is well established as the Black Cats' first-choice right-back and has grown well into the role in recent weeks. Didn't shirk his defensive duties, while getting up the right wing well and supporting the attack. Smashed home his second penalty in as many home encounters to equalise Hoolahan's opener.

Initially tracked Hoolahan in the hole, but looked unsure what to do when the Irishman was sacrificed for a replacement goalkeeper and ultimately did little of note for his side.

  • Adam Johnson

    Adam Johnson

Had the beating of Martin for the most part, regularly beating the Norwich skipper. Often looked to drift inside, on to his weaker right foot, which limited his threat. His delivery from either flank left much to be desired.

  • Stéphane Sessegnon

    Stéphane Sessegnon

A frustrating afternoon for the Benin man who regularly had the beating if his marker but could not find a cross or shot to actually trouble the visitors.

  • Danny Graham

    Danny Graham

Worked manfully in attack, closing down the Norwich backline and putting them under pressure. Bravely denied by Bunn early on and was also involved in the keeper's dismissal, chasing a long ball that drew the former Blackburn man from his line. Wasted a gilt-edged chance to score his side's second as he scuffed wide after Larsson's shot was parried to him.

  • Steven Fletcher

Steven Fletcher Flop of the Match

Has gone over four months without a goal at the Stadium of Light now and showed little to hint that run would come to an end. Looked ponderous on and off the ball, failing to being colleagues into play or get into positions of real threat.

    Titus Bramble

Came on for Cuellar and almost gifted the visitors an instant goal as he got in a muddle but was rescued by a heavy touch from Holt and good work from Mignolet.

  • James McClean

    James McClean

Replaced Graham to prompt a slight formation change and could not get into the game fully from the left flank.

  • Connor Wickham

    Connor Wickham

Introduced in Johnson's place to huge cheers late on but could not contribute tellingly.

  • Mark Bunn

    Mark Bunn

Made a fine early save at the feet of Graham but saw his afternoon ruined as he denied the Sunderland No. 9 an open goal with his elbow, outside the box and was rightly dismissed.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

Found things a struggle at right-back, often finding himself outnumbered and his flank ended up becoming a good opening for the hosts' attacks, although they could not fully capitalise.

  • S. Bassong

    S. Bassong

Manfully defended alongside Turner as the Black Cats threw everything forward in their hunt for a second. Harshly penalised for handball as he chested a cross in the area, giving Gardner the chance to net from 12 yards.

  • Michael Turner

Michael Turner Top of the Match

Perhaps isn't the silkiest of operators, but took the no-nonsense approach to the extreme as he towered above Fletcher and Graham to win his fair share of aerial duels, while thundering any loose balls into the stands.

  • Javier Garrido

    Javier Garrido

Also found Sunderland's pace from wide tough to deal with and barely ventured out of his own half for fear of leaving too much room behind him for Johnson and Sessegnon.

  • Bradley Johnson

    Bradley Johnson

A canny operator in midfield, tackling strongly and bringing Norwich's wide players into the game frequently. Sat off Sunderland's players slightly to allow long shots, but closed down tenaciously once they reached a position too threatening.

  • Robert Snodgrass

    Robert Snodgrass

Delivered well from set-plays but was well marshalled by Gardner from open play and could not get going fully. Replaced by Whittaker to add stability late on.

  • Jonny Howson

    Jonny Howson

Initially looked to be the one to burst from deep in the visitors' midfield but saw his role become heavily restricted after Bunn's sending-off and completely failed to stamp his authority on proceedings.

    Wesley Hoolahan

Found himself in the right place at the right time to nod Kamara's header in to open the scoring, but was sacrificed from the team after Bunn's red card and replaced by Lee Camp.

  • Elliott Bennett

    Elliott Bennett

Tried to be the one from midfield to support the lone frontman, bursting forward and looking to drift infield, although this left Martin exposed on the right flank.

  • Kei Kamara

    2.50

    Kei Kamara

A strong presence up front and won his fair share of headers against O'Shea and Cuellar. Saw Hoolahan nod his header back across goal in for the game's opener but become isolated and frustrated when the Canaries were down to 10 men. Ran himself into the ground before being replaced by Holt in the 65th minute.

Substitutions

    Lee Camp

Came on after Bunn's dismissal and showed sharp reflexes to save well-hit efforts from Larsson and Gardner and preserve a hard-earned point for the Canaries.

Replaced Snodgrass too add a defensive-minded body to the Canaries' team as they closed out a point.

  • Grant Holt

    Grant Holt

Added experience to the Canaries thin attack after replacing Kamara. Booked after crashing into Mignolet inside the box after his heavy touch took a one-on-one opening to the goalkeeper.
