Kept Benteke's header out with a fine save, which he tipped onto the bar. Had no chance keeping out the equaliser but should have done better when trying to clear the ball for the second.

    Alex Pearce

Put in a few important tackles but was beaten in the air and on the ground by Benteke too often, and again wasn't tight enough for Villa's opening goal. Needed to take control and clear the ball for the visitor's second.

    Adrian Mariappa

Worried by Benteke when the Belgian turned and ran with the ball and his marking was non-existent for Villa's opening goal. Part of a poorly organised defence which conceded the second goal.

Weimann broke away too easily on his side for the equaliser and he was again beaten easily for the second goal. His slip also led to Sylla going close for Villa.

Stephen Kelly Flop of the Match

Unlucky to deflect Benteke's shot past his own keeper. Was twice at fault for their second as his clearance went up and not out before he then failed to read the flight of the ball.

  • Mikele Leigertwood

    Mikele Leigertwood

Was wasteful with his passing at times, and neither offered cutting edge going forward of protection at the back. Replaced late on.

    Jobi McAnuff

His direct style caused some problems but was wasteful at times. Played the main part in the own goal that gave his side the lead, though.

    Hal Robson-Kanu

Crossed brilliantly for Le Fondre early on and caused a threat himself on a number of occasions afterwards. Went close to a late equaliser and was easily Reading's best player.

Clever flick-on led to the opening goal but failed to cover for Villa's second.

Almost opened the scoring very early on but Guzan saved fantastically. His influence faded, though, as he failed to get on the ball.

    Noel Hunt

Was quite bright early on but became a bystander later in the game. Unlucky to see a goal ruled out for offside.

Brought on for Hunt. Wasted a good chance when he completely missed the ball with his attempted effort. Should have scored soon after too.

    Bradley Guzan

Denied Le Fondre an early goal with a brilliant diving save. Sometimes looked a liability when rushing out for crosses and his handling was also suspect at times.

    Ron Vlaar

Won his headers and read most of Reading's attacking play well. Drove his side forward on occasion too. Helped his side get through a late surge from the hosts.

    Ciaran Clark

Solid display at the back and tried to play the ball out when he could. Fortunate to see the linesman's flag raised when Hunt put the ball in the net, though.

    Nathan Baker

Robson-Kanu got the better of him early on but he grew into the challenge. Crossed for an early Benteke chance. Scored an unfortunate own goal after a low cross was flicked on, but should have kept his eye on the ball.

    Yacouba Sylla

Made a fine tackle on McAnuff but was at times a little sloppy on the ball. Was his first start so probably still adjusting to the league. Fired narrowly over after the break.

    Barry Bannan

Kept Villa ticking in midfield and hit the post in the build-up to Agbonlahor's goal. Worked hard and was replaced after the break.

    Gabriel Agbonlahor

Found some space in the opponent's half but failed to create much. Took his goal emphatically when Reading's defence presented him with it, though. Went close to another later on.

    C. Benteke

Bullied defenders at times as he held up the ball for others expertly, and was always a threat himself. Saw an early header tipped brilliantly onto the bar by Taylor. Broke away well in a move that should have been finished off by Weimann. Though was fortunate with the finish, got into the right position for the equaliser.

  • Andreas Weimann

Andreas Weimann Top of the Match

Linked up fabulously with Benteke all afternoon and nearly made a goal for him with a dangerous ball early on. Should have scored himself afterwards but dragged it wide. Finally got his assist for the equaliser and then again displayed good work in the build-up to Villa's second. Displayed more neat work after the break.
