Player Ratings: Norwich City 1-1 Tottenham

Gareth Bale scored a superb solo goal after the break to save Spurs a point against a hardworking Canaries side who had taken a deserved first-half lead through Wes Hoolahan

    Mark Bunn

Made one excellent save to deny Defoe but could do nothing when Bale fired an unstoppable shot past him. His superb late stop on Sigurdsson saved Norwich a point.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

Provided excellent attacking support on the right flank and aimed one low shot narrowly wide from 20 yards. His offensive approach was effective as Bale saw little of the ball and was moved to a central position for the start of the second half.

  • S. Bassong

    S. Bassong

Generally excellent, sweeping up behind Turner with athleticism and anticipation. But one slip-up could have proved crucial when he was caught on the ball and allowed Defoe in on goal.

  • Michael Turner

    Michael Turner

Stepped higher up the pitch than Bassong to challenge opponents and timed his tackles well, denying both Defoe and Dempsey at important moments. Aerially dominant against the smaller Spurs strikeforce and made some key clearances from crosses.

  • Javier Garrido

    Javier Garrido

Rarely involved. Lennon received desperately little in the way of service on the right and Norwich did most of their attacking on the opposite flank. Was keen to support Pilkington when he could and performed his defensive duties without fuss. Could do nothing to block Bale's run given the speed that the winger had picked up.

  • Bradley Johnson

    Bradley Johnson

Worked hard defensively to nullify Spurs' central attacking threats and provided a platform from which Tettey could break forward and wide.

  • Robert Snodgrass

Robert Snodgrass Top of the Match

Comfortably the most dangerous Norwich player, his crosses frequently caused the Tottenham defence problems and led to Hoolahan's opening goal. Also came close to setting Holt free with a couple of well-placed through balls.

  • Anthony Pilkington

    Anthony Pilkington

Drifted in and out of the game but effective when Norwich did bring him into possession. Set up Hoolahan's goal with a simple pass. His battle with Walker was a highly physical one and he tracked the right-back's forward runs attentively.

  • Wesley Hoolahan

    Wesley Hoolahan

Found the central areas more squeezed than he would have liked but showed his class when he was able to find pockets of space. Finished easily from close range to open the scoring.

  • Alexander Tettey

    3.50

    Alexander Tettey

Dominated the early stages, strutting around the midfield and often moving to the right flank when Snodgrass had cut inside to great effect. Less dynamic as the game wore on but remained an imposing presence in the centre of the park.

  • Grant Holt

    Grant Holt

His work rate was immense and created space behind him for the Norwich midfielders to exploit. Superbly effective in the air, dominating his battle with Dawson for the most part.

Substitutions

  • Jonny Howson

    Jonny Howson

Replaced Hoolahan behind Holt but saw very little of the ball as Tottenham pressed in the late stages.

  • Hugo Lloris

    Hugo Lloris

Made one good save from Holt and had little chance with Hoolahan's opening goal but his punching was occasionally questionable.

  • Jan Vertonghen

    Jan Vertonghen

Generally defended with poise but the boisterous Holt proved a handful. Covered for Dawson on a couple of occasions with some important interceptions.

  • Michael Dawson

    Michael Dawson

Ofted outjumped by Holt, who had the better of him in the air. Struggled to distribute the ball due to the lack of options available in front of him.

  • Kyle Walker

    3.00

    Kyle Walker

Tried to drive forward to inject some life into Spurs but found options for forward passes lacking. Generally defended well against Pilkington, who can be a dangerous opponent.

  • Benoit Assou-Ekotto

    Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Snodgrass attacked through the middle so he often did not have a direct opponent to face. This gave him opportunity to attack and while he was disappointing in the first half, he did so to good effect after the break, although his crossing sometimes let him down.

  • Aaron Lennon

    2.50

    Aaron Lennon

Saw very little of the ball but one smart touch set Defoe free for Spurs' best chance of the first half. His crossing let him down when he became more involved late in the game.

  • Scott Parker

    1
    2.00

    Scott Parker

Made a couple of timely tackles but has nothing like the energy he used to possess. Often completely off the pace, doing little to stop Norwich from passing around and beyond him.

  • Gareth Bale

    4.00

    Gareth Bale

Saw virtually nothing of the ball in the first half, beating Garrido to draw a foul and a yellow card but otherwise remaining frustrated. But demonstrated his ability to turn a game in an instant with a wonderful solo effort that brought Spurs level.

  • Mousa Dembélé

    Mousa Dembélé

Marked tightly and found influencing the game from midfield challenging but had more joy when he stepped up and tried to win possession himself higher up the field.

  • Clint Dempsey

Clint Dempsey Flop of the Match

Virtually anonymous, operating more as a striker than the midfield link that Spurs needed. Substituted in the second half for Holtby.

  • Jermain Defoe
    3

    3.00

    Jermain Defoe

Saw little service come his way and fired his only chance too close to Bunn. Worked hard up front and in the channels, though.

Substitutions

  • Gylfi Sigurdsson

    Gylfi Sigurdsson

Appearing as a late substitute, he was unlucky to see one fine strike pushed around the post by Bunn.
