Chirag United Kerala had only their pride to play for as they played host to Mumbai FC on Sunday, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The home side gave their fans something to smile about, dispatching their
rivals 5-2.
Manuel D'Souza gave the visitors the lead after just 8 minutes, his long range shot met the crossbar before ending up in the back of the net.
Chirag United got back in the game 5 minutes later as Faizal Rehman's failed clearance ended up in his own net.
Vineeth gave Chirag United the lead after clinically finishing Shaijumon's ball that came in from the right wing.
David Sunday doubled the home side's lead 9 minutes into the second half, before finding the back of the net once again in the 68th minute.
Rehman found his name on the score sheet once again, this time scoring in the correct goal.
Stoppage time saw Chirag United extend their lead as Vineeth found his second, to give his side a 5-2 victory.
Chirag United Kerala ended their campaign accumulating 20 points from 26 games which was not enough for them to stay in the I-League next season. Mumbai FC stayed in 11th position, gaining 24 points in their 26 games.
