Karim Bencherifa accepts the blame as Salgaocar are thrashed by 5 goals in Jordan with a lackluster performance...
A penalty from Abdallah Deeb opened the scoring midway through the first half at King Abdullah International Stadium before Ahmad Elias doubled the advantage at the start of the second half.
Further second-half goals from Issa Al Sapah, Mahmoud Shelbaieh and Amer Abuhwaiti secured a comfortable win as Al Wehdat moved three points clear of third placed Al Arouba, who lost 3-1 to table-topping Neftchi in Uzbekistan."
"The win gives us our spirit back especially because we also produced a good performance. It was a good win after bad performances in the league and the team put on a good show," said Al Wehdat coach Branko Smiljanic, who takes his side to India for the return fixture next week.
"We made some changes recently in the tactics and it paid off. We still respect our opponents despite the big win.
"We will be looking to qualifying to the next stage and hopefully we can carry on performing like this."
Looking to build on their first win of the campaign two weeks ago against Al Arouba, Al Wehdat opened the scoring after 25 minutes as Deeb converted from the penalty spot after Al Sapah had been fouled inside the area.
And two minutes into the second half the home side doubled their advantage as Elias' free-kick beat Salgaocar goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.
The home side had to wait until 18 minutes remaining to add a third as Al Sapah skipped past Singh from before finding the empty net.
Substitute Abuhwaiti provided the pass for Shelbaieh to add a fourth in the last minute before adding his name to the scoresheet in the third minute of stoppage time as the strikers' lob deflected in off the crossbar.
"I didn't expect this performance from Al Wehdat following their recent matches. They were organised and they gave us huge problems and deserved to win," said Salgaocar coach Karim Bencherifa.
"We had some problems in the attacking line as our players are not tall enough to follow crosses.
"Al Wehdat have experience and they have good players and I take responsibility for this result."
